Low-profile drive-on ramps: $149
6 quarts of Mobil-1 5W-30: $34
PF-46 filter: $6.99
Knowing that some minimum-wage high school kid didn't strip your oil
drain plug threads or forget to refill your crankcase: PRICELESS!

You should buy the 5 qt jug at walmart... it's considerably cheaper that way.

I looked for the jug, but all my local stor had on the shelf was the
1-quart bottles. I hate Wal-Mart, but I'll check it out next time.

Yes to the five-quart jugs, no to Wal-Mart. O'Reilly has the
five-quart jugs (for most brands, anyway). Not sure about Advance or
AutoZone, as I rarely shop there.

If you drive on those low profile ramps, can the oil actually drain out all
the way. I always thought the angle would not allow it.

Obviously that would depend on where the drain plug is.  Further, as
to whether it matters or not, do you truly believe you can get all the
oil out without flushing?

That was my concern as well. There were definitely a couple of ounces
left in the pan when it was all said and done. Not a big deal, but
next time I might try jacking up the rear so that the car is level and
those last few ounces can dribble out.

Great idea!

Don't forget to remove your valve covers and get the couple ounces that
will remain pooled on top of the heads... and run the engine for 10-15
seconds after draining the pan to get what oil might be lingering in
the pump.

Then, you might as well go whole hog and refill the crankcase with
diesel and run it for a minute or so, then drain that, just to be
sure...

I would be cautious about jacking up the rear end while the front is on the
ramps. A neighbor did that and the car collapsed. Caused some damage. It was
also a Vette.

I do it all the time with my 928, the front end only has one jacking point
on each side, so if you jack it up, there isn't anywhere to put stands. As
long as you have decent ramps (not the metal ones) you are fine.

Sounds foolhardy... better to find an oil drain pan you can slip under
there without raising the car. I change the oil in my cars with them flat
on the ground. I even found a way to change the oil in the TW with it on
the ground... Took some contortions to get the filter out from the
topside but I really hate using ramps....

I could do that easily with my truck (it's a 2WD truck with 4WD ride
height). But the ride height on the C6 is a little bit lower... ;)

I bought the lowest-profile oil drain pan I could find, but unless the
car is raised it doesn't look like it would clear the rocker panel
(although I confess I didn't actually try). It's for dang sure I
couldn't reach my arm under there to get the drain plug and oil filter
out.

Maybe it's time for a KiwkLift?
