Probablly the best thing for you to do would be to find an independant
insurance agent in your area and tell him what you need and what your
situation is. They would probablly do better for you than GEICO will
(GEICO has to get the money to pay for all those ads from somewhere...).

You don't need insurance or a car in NYC. Certainly, you can go for
six months without one until your rate drops.
If you think $900/half to drive is bad, wait 'til you find out how much
it'll cost you to *park* a car there.

years!

unless you are driving an expensive car (I bought mine for $5,500),
maybe you should have a look at another insurance company :-)
I believe insurance is one of the biggest scams in the country. Warren
Buffet and others made a killing out of this...

undoubtedly. however I don't think they're ripping me off (well, I *do
think they're ripping me off) relative to other companies... I've gotten
slightly better quotes for my one "real" car (an old beater Porsche) but
most companies won't touch my "historic" vehicles ('55 and '62 Stude;
but the '62 is sold and I will try to run the '55 through inspection
soon...)

Wait until you have a wreck and discover that your 15/30/5 coverage
doesn't come close to paying $70k to replace two or three cars and
another $40k or so in medical bills. If you have a house, you lose it.
If not, your wages get garnished for the rest of your life.
Enough insurance will protect you from this.
Why do you call that a scam?

No matter what the coverage, you can always find a scenario which
blows it. Hit a tanker truck in a covered portion of a highway...

Somewhat true, but if that tanker is carrying dangerous cargo, you won't
need to worry about having enough insurance. Your heirs might...

No it won't. But a bankruptcy will - unless you were drunk.

Sure, provided you arrange to be fired first. Otherwise you're a
slave for the rest of your life, either by garnishee or by Chapter
13. Isn't that what the Bankruptcy Act Reform Bill provided?

6 months without a car and without car insurance has been known to put
people in the 'high risk' group. (previous threads in this groups)
