Your status as a new driver shouldn't matter much.
Your status as being over 25 is good.
The car is a good choice for low rates.
I've never tried the Progressive web site, but you might check it out.
I would think you will pay somewhere in the $750-$1000 per year
range (but then I carry collision, un-insured motorist, and the highest
limits.)
If you belong to a credit union, check out their partner.  Also, check
with the company that has your home/fire or renter's insurance - often
they offer discounts for multiple policies.

Not necessarily.  Insurance rates are set by experience.  COINCIDENTALLY,
that usually matches age, also.  That is, by 25 you are usually an
experienced operator, as you got your license at 16/17.  But I was an
experienced operator, and paid experienced operator insurance rates,
starting at age 20.  That was because the insurance companies consider you
to be experienced if you've had a full unrestricted operator's license for 6
years or longer, and I had that at age 14.  Long before I turned 25, I
already had the maximum insurance discount in my state, as I was an
experienced operator with maximum safety discount (step 9, where lower
numbers are better, and 9 is the lowest)  -Dave

Your are a new driver and you are already 27 years old?  Why so old?
It sounds suspicious.  Either A) you lived in Manhattan NY most of your
life or B) You had been incarcerated, or C) You have had bad health
that prevented you from getting a license, or even D) You've been dirt
poor most your life to the extent that you never had the funds for a
car.

I just signed up with Geico and I saved a bundle. No kidding. Check out
http://www.geico.com for info and an online price quote.

I wouldn't have insurance with Geico if it were free.  I've heard
enough stories about denied claims, random dropping of coverage, and
worst of all the "Geico Guns" that unless someone can offer concrete
proof that they have well and truly mended their ways, I take it as a
given that I will never do business with them.  Unless, of course, I
get hit by a Geico customer.

To each his own. One of my closest friends has Geico and he's been a
satisfied customer of Geico for years.

No insurance company is in business to be your friend. They all engage
in some level of sleezey tactics. Out of curiosity, I just checked
http://www.njdobi.org/acrobat/05ratios.pdf and Geico has a low complaint
ratio.

Thanks for your concern, but the reality is, Geico has a good customer
satisfaction record, reasonable rates, and it took me all of five
minutes to sign up for a policy, which is quite different than my
previous carrier where every renewal was a pain in the neck.

By the way, the document I cited would be a good resource for anyone in
NJ to use in shopping for auto insurance. It lists all the providers who
write policies in NJ.

Watch what happens when you try to make a claim. ;)

BTW, you must have lied to them about your radar detector; normally
they will refuse to insure anyone who uses one. If you ever wreck your
car, better toss that puppy out the window before the cops see it and
note it in their report, or you'll find yourself on the receiving end
of an insurance fraud lawsuit. :)

I do not own a radar detector. Where did I say I owned one? I guess
reading comprehension is not one of your talents.

Congratulations.  Geico almost certainly celebrated by buying your local
police some new radar guns.  You are a traitor to drivers everywhere.

My local police do not use radar guns, and even if they did, why should
I care? I observe the speed limit.

And you live in New Jersey?  Good luck with that.  I would think that
you would be interested in having your local police enforce laws that
are conducive to safety rather than revenue generation, but if you
prefer the latter, feel free to stick with GEICO.

As I said, the police in my township DO NOT use radar guns. What's your
problem?

I don't have a problem, I just prefer not to contribute to poor public
policy if I can help it.  Thus, my auto insurance is with a company
other than GEICO.  Granted, all insurance co's (at least the ones that
are part of the IIHS) are part of the problem, but GEICO has
traditionally been the most blatant.  They won't cover me anyway, as one
of my cars is registered as "Historic," so it's no skin off my nose.
