Scientists shocked as Arctic polar route emerges
Wed Sep 20, 7:18 AM ET
PARIS (AFP) - European scientists voiced shock as they showed pictures which showed Arctic ice cover had disappeared so much last month that a ship could sail unhindered from Europe's most northerly outpost to the North Pole itself.
The satellite images were acquired from August 23 to 25 by instruments aboard Envisat and EOS Aqua, two satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA).
Perennial sea ice -- thick ice that is normally present year-round and is not affected by the Arctic summer -- had disappeared over an area bigger than the British Isles, ESA said.
Vast patches of ice-free sea stretched north of Svalbard, an archipelago lying midway between Norway and the North Ple, and extended deep into the Russian Arctic, all the way to the North Pole, the agency said in a press release.
"This situation is unlike anything observed in previous record low-ice seasons," said Mark Drinkwater of ESA's Oceans/Ice Unit.
"It is highly imaginable that a ship could have passed from Spitzbergen or Northern Siberia through what is normally pack ice to reach the North Pole without difficulty."

You should show a little more respect for those who support you in that mental facility. Without the generosity of your fellow Americans, and more specifically your fellow Coloradoans, you'd be on the street somewhere, being beat up by everyone you talk to. Bill Funk - 20 Sep 2006 21:46 GMT >And yet SUV-crazy america still insists global warming is a hoax. >Americans are paranoid conspiracy theorists. Right. First, no one is claiming global warming is a hoax. The hoax is that the scientists claim they know why it's happening. The last ice age ended in the 18th century. Scientists don't know why it stopped (read: why that global warming episode started). But, despite the fact that they don't know why any global warming episode happened (there ave been many, one for each ice age), they claim to know why *this* one is happening. Sure they do.

In fact, the "little ice age" several hundred years ago was caused by global warming. That ice age is PROOF global warming occurred.
We know why that ice age occurred. The dotheads in India clearcut most of their forests to grow their vegetarian crops, releasing huge amounts of CO2. In addition, the population of India skyrocketed, resulting in even more CO2. The huge increase in the global temperature melted huge amounts of polar ice. The newly-melted ice travelled up the Gulf Stream, which usually brings rather warm water to England and northern Europe. With the rather warm water replaced with barely above freezing water, that part of the country froze.
A similar situation will occur soon, with most of the Antarctic ice melting because of global warming, enormous amounts of 33 degree water will travel up the Gulf Stream, causing the Limeys and other Eurotrash to freeze. The silver lining is many Eurotrash might die and many others might be miserable. Because most of the SUV-driving scum in the USA are white and put Europe before the USA, it's karma for Europe to suffer.
Regarding lawn mowers polluting much more than cars, note that the stupid practice of having a lawn cut short was invented in England. Stupid Limey filth!

Barely passing emissions means you pollute, something you accuse others of.
By requiring the use of a flashlight to see your instrument panel at night means you have an unnecessary device in your car that distracts from your driving, yet you accuse others of having devices in their car that do the same.
By admitting to being stopped for speeding, then accuse others of doing the same....
See a pattern here? You're the very definition of a hypocrite.
But then, after speeding, carrying distracting devices, etc. and you still have such a stellar driving record by your account, perhaps these things aren't so bad after all since you seem to have made it 3 1/2 years doing what everybody else does...carry distracting devices and speeding yourself...huh!
So, your argument has just lost all of it's air. You just proved without a shadow of a doubt that even an idiot can keep from having accidents while speeding and using distracting devices.
