veg_all@yahoo.com - 25 Sep 2006 01:20 GMT what do people think of putting this sticket on your rear window to deter tailgaters:
http://www.redneckdecals.com/category-5.php
i figure the red neck types will think i am one of them and leave me alone. while the other spectrum of cellphone drivers will back off. only thing is my car is japaneese, so may seem a little out of place with such a sticker.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't recall seeing any stickers on that page dealing with tailgating (i.e. following too close) on that page.
And I agree, it's a stupid idea. And I can think of one (the one on the lower right corner) that might attract the attention of your friendly law enforcement officer if he has nothing better to do....

The unstated assumptions underlying veg_all's post seem to be 1) the majority of tailgaters are rednecks, 2) rednecks do not tailgate other rednecks, 3) rednecks are easily fooled - you don't need to be driving a 1975 Dodge pickup truck with a tool box, a gun rack, and a bunch of empty beer cans in the bed; all you need is one of those "stickets" on your 740i and the rednecks will think you're one of them.
If any one of those assumptions fails to hold, the entire scheme is doomed to failure.

It is actually option 0), Spam, that is most likely true

therefore i am looking for a non-offensive way of telling them to be more aware of their surroundings. i think yuo are right, the redneck crowd is not the one i need to tackle and neither are they the problem.

If you want them to stop tailgating you, give them a way to get around you. Better still, leave that escape route open at all times, and most won't bother tailgating you at all.
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have been tailgated this year.

Spoken like a tailgaiter who knows of what he speaks, and then some.

Hmmm...reminds me of your episode of following another vehicle at a distance of a half-carlength, even as you approached your exit...

You would do better to limit your discourse to LBMHBF and her ilk. Obviously you share similar taste in nyms. -----

Talk about unaware!
If they are unaware of their surroundings, how would they even notice the sticker?
Besides, MOST tailgaters are superior drivers held up by buffoons who should get the hell off the road!

Tailgaters "do it" because they have to contend with ignorant self-centered frontgaters.

Horrible idea. The stickers are midly offensive, and poorly done. And it is very likely they'll casue wannbe rednecks to tailgate you even closer becasue they'll have to get real close to read them and they'll probably stay glued to your bumper for a long time while they try to read them and figure out what they mean.
Anyone who buys these stickers probably shouldn't be allowed to drive.

http://www.merch-bot.com/product_info.php?products_id=260
it would tell a tailgater that this driver cares about his safety and does not appreciate being tailgated. i dont think it is offensive as it is trying to promote overall safety for everyone.

Oops, sorry, that's too complicated for some with reduced mental facilities.
