I was driving in carpool lane on the freeway, shooting some video for
my MFFYCam video collection. I was doing about 5 MPH over the speed
limit, just minding my own business, when suddenly a semi apperared,
literally from out of nowhere, and drove directly across my path! I
was sandwiched between the truck and the K-rail - there was literally
nowhere to go, and I just couldn't stop in time. Luckily I have both
front and side impact airbags, and of course I always wear my seat
belt. I walked away without a scratch.
My car is pretty much totalled, but I did manage to salvage what was
left of the video camera, extract the tape, and load it into my
editing deck for capture on my computer.
Here it is (WARNING - don't watch it if you are squeamish!)

Amusing edit... but it does bring up a point carl neglects... slower
means hanging along side a semi truck longer and increasing the odds of
being smashed by the truck changing lanes. All the brakes in the world
won't help if the trucker does it suddenly enough.

GPSTroll did the exact same thing in his video. Come to think of it, I
see a lot of incompetent drivers doing it. No wonder Truckers think
all four-wheeler drivers are idiots.

I'm not sure it was amusing, but it WAS an obvious edit (unless the
tape was damaged in the wreck, but an obvious cut appears prior to
impact).
Survival with few injuries is quite fortunate!
I'm not sure about your analysis regarding speed. While a higher speed
might reduce the time the truck is hidden, it also increases the damage
on impact, and reduces the time for reaction. The results will vary
infinitely, depending on the circumstances of the individual occurrence.

If there's anything to the story, your .sig just might be obsolete. ;)

Perhaps the semi "appeared out of nowhere" because Scott's attention was
focused on his video cam??
Was this the end of the Corvette? A shame.

No worries. The incident I described occurred in Carl Troller's
bizarre parallel universe. My car in this universe is still entirely
in one piece. :)

Your copying and editing of my video reminds me of that time
when I reposted a video of a guy nearly killing himself by
rolling a Subaru. His response was to have my (free) website
deleted out of spite. I would have removed the clip voluntarily
but hadn't checked my email. I had listed the source all along,
unlike you.
With that said, you should at least put this in your caption if
you're going to edit someone's original material:
"This is the original video before I added something meaningless
to impress my speediot friends:
http://www.geocities.com/aggress
ive_driving/work_zone_speeder.avi"
Also note that you added a classic case of the unexpected and
don't even understand why! The people filming that truck would
surely have wanted to be elsewhere, so they didn't expect it to
crash (UNexpected - get it?). Why not post the whole video you
took that from? The unexpected can happen to speeders or non-
speeders, but speeders are usually in more trouble when it does.
Ask any crash-scene investigator or physicist why speed matters.
Also amusing is your use of the term "MFFY," which must stand
for "Me First, f.ck You." Speediots drive around all day with
that mentality, yet you're claiming to be the righteous ones?
Please God, find me a planet with reasonable people!
