"Tix quota nixed -- Write 25 tickets and go home early is 'a sad example
of unacceptable conduct'"

" Toronto Police brass have slammed the brakes on a "25 and home" scheme
that saw cops go home early as a "reward" if they wrote 25 traffic
tickets in one shift.

The traffic ticket quota was ordered to be brought to a screeching halt
yesterday when a veteran officer was acquitted of a Police Services Act
charge of insubordination he alleges sprang from his refusal to embrace
the 23 Division practice.

In his acquittal of Const. David Deviney and his partner Mark Von
Kalckreuth, hearing officer Supt. Neale Tweedy ordered that if the
practice still exists, it should end immediately.

"I find it is an affront to the public interest and cannot be condoned as
legitimate law enforcement behaviour, where quotas and personal benefit
influence the day," Tweedy wrote in a 25-page judgment. "

I like that the one guy refused it and was aquitted of the charge.  That
took some guts.

It speaks to the fact that good cops who stand up for the people, the
consitution are in the minority and are punished by the others.
