Ten ways to avoid road rage

Thread rating: |
Arif Khokar - 24 Dec 2006 18:07 GMT I happened to find a little handbook published by Shell called driving dangers. In one segment, they list ten ways to avoid road rage.
1. Be courteous behind the wheel. 2. Don't honk your horn excessively. 3. Don't block the passing lane. 4. Don't switch lanes without signaling first. 5. Don't take up more than one parking spot. 6. Don't let your door hit the car parked next to you. 7. Don't tailgate. 8. Avoid unnecessary use of high beam headlights. 9. Don't inflict your loud music on nearby cars. 10. Allow plenty of time for every trip.
What do the rest of you think? I've noted that one poster/troll on this newsgroup invites road rage according to this list.

Herds are for grazing livestock, not for supposedly intelligent automobile operators. Actually, this is a continuation of #1. 4: Signal your intent to other drivers in a reasonable amount of time, so they'll have the time to compensate.

That way idiots with loud exhausts are covered.

Let someone else do the driving or stay home. Probablly goes more with dwpj65's reply, but since I've started the reply here...

If I get stuck in traffic jams it can make me feel sleepy. That would certainly affect my driving. To deal with that, I carry some caffeine pills in the glove box. They work ! Don't overdo it though !

It's a speed lane and when you block it you're stopping the speeders and thereby saving lives. True - such activity does promote road rage in the speeders but since they are deadly psychopaths, they don't count. Yes, but never deliberately. In fact i got a speeding ticket about 5 years ago for doing 41 in a 25. I just about kicked the cops teeth in cause i was sure he was lying. No way the SL on this wide open stretch could be 25, i thought."

editor@netpath.net - 25 Dec 2006 07:21 GMT How much "road rage" is there, really? I don't see anything out there looking like threatening or assaulting behavior by drivers in this area. Closest thing I saw to it was a sloppy blue-light stop of another driver by a police officer on the Interstate without enough room for cars in the lane that nearly caused a wreck - and that was the only incident in my 31 years in this area.

> How much "road rage" is there, really? I don't see anything out >there looking like threatening or assaulting behavior by drivers in >this area. The LA newscasts are full of reports on "Road Rage." It seems like once a month or so (on average) there is a story in the news about how someone pulled some MFFY move on the freeway and got a few bullet holes in their car as a reward. Here's a recent example:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-roadrage15dec15,1,4510542.story?coll=la- headlines-california
Now while I wouldn't necessarily mind if a MFFY took a bullet after performing some selfish and dangerous maneuver, the fact of the matter is that bullets don't always reach their intended targets. In this case, an innocent 12-year-old was shot because his father cut of the wrong guy on the freeway. Even if the victim managed to shoot only the MFFY, that wounded MFFY could easily lose control of his vehicle and damage/injure/kill others on his way into the K-rail.
I only wish the CHP were as interested in MFFY drivers as they are in registration scofflaws...

Brent P - 25 Dec 2006 21:35 GMT > I only wish the CHP were as interested in MFFY drivers as they are in > registration scofflaws... They will not do any such thing. The more MFFY drivers out there the better for government. They can bring about more and more control so long as problems are never solved.
