Drivers told to lay off the mince pies
- 28 December 2006
FESTIVE feasters have been warned to lay off the home-made mince pies
before getting behind the wheel by a road safety charity.

And as the party season continues, Barking and Dagenham police added
their voices to the plea, and warned they will hunt down suspected
drink-drivers.

A spokesman for charity Brake said: "At this time of year, the dangers
of drink-driving are heightened because everyone is in a festive mood.

"Maybe people who don't usually have a drink have a sherry or eat
home-made mince pies with a high alcohol content - and it all adds up.

"The best policy is zero tolerance. People must also remember that if
they've been drinking lots they may still be unfit to drive the morning
after."

Latest figures show that nearly one in five drivers aged between 16 and
24 have admitted driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and 82
per cent of UK drivers admitted they did not know the legal alcohol
limit is 80mgs in 100mls of blood or 35mcgs in 100mls of breath.

The research, by tickbox.net for the carrentals.co.uk's Road Sense Road
Safety campaign, found that 70 per cent of drivers said there should be
a zero tolerance approach.

That last sentence really grabbed me.  I'm all for it but i doubt if
70% of the brits really want zero tolerance on DUI.  And BTW - why do
the teabags call it DRINK-driving?? They are the original english and
oughta know how to speak their own language!!!!

Because they speak *proper* English and not the perversion that the libs
have foisted on us over here that *you* speak.

Hell, I'm surprised anyone from Colorado can speak, much less speak
correctly.

Don't steal; the government hates competition!

The term originated, (if I recall correctly as it was a tad before my
time!), from an early "don't DRINK and DRIVE" campaign, hence
"drink-driving".

I've never heard us called "tea-bags" before - I like it! :-)

And a "Happy New Year" to all our Trans-Atlantic cousins from the mother
country ;-)

You probably wouldn't like it so much if you knew what teabagging
was... :)
