At one point it looked like he was trying to up shift to one gear
higher then he had.

Having one car a 5spd and another a 3spd, I've gone looking for a 4th
gear that wasn't there...

    Argh, I do that occasionally.  Thank dog for the 5th gear/reverse
lockout...
