Driver gets life in prison for smuggling deaths
19 illegal immigrants died in nation's deadliest human trafficking
attempt

Updated: 4:09 p.m. MT Jan 18, 2007

HOUSTON - A truck driver was sentenced to life in prison Thursday,
avoiding a death sentence for his role in the United States' deadliest
human smuggling attempt in which 19 illegal immigrants died from
dehydration and suffocation inside an overheated tractor-trailer.

Tyrone Williams, 36, was convicted last month on 58 counts of
conspiracy, harboring and transporting immigrants.

A jury deliberated for 5 1/2 days before sentencing Williams, himself
an immigrant from Jamaica.

Williams was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of
parole for each of the 19 counts of transporting the illegal immigrants
who died. U.S. District Judge Lee Rosenthal will sentence Williams on
Aug. 23 for the remaining 38 counts of harboring and transporting
immigrants and for the conspiracy count. The maximum sentence for the
conspiracy count is life in prison.

Williams looked down as the verdict was read and gave no visible
reaction. His attorney, former U.S. Rep. Craig Washington, wept and
wiped his eyes with a tissue.

Prosecutor Daniel Rodriguez looked grim after the sentence was
announced as his boss, U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle, spoke to
reporters.

"We did everything we could to impose a sentence of death. Nineteen
life sentences is not something to be disappointed about," DeGabrielle
said. "One human being had the chance to let those people out. That was
Tyrone Williams."

In May 2003, Williams' tractor-trailer was packed with more than 70
immigrants from Mexico, Central America and the Dominican Republic. As
temperatures skyrocketed inside the airtight refrigerator truck, the
immigrants kicked walls, clawed at insulation, broke out taillights and
screamed for help.

He deserves a life sentence for bringing them in.

The fact that they died during the process I don't think should be held
much against him.  If we had more coyotes letting people suffocate
perhaps it would provide more disincentive for illegals to come here.

Yup - this sends a message that america is concerned about the welfare
of the illegals invading this country. Looks like the corporations who
make fortunes off the cheap illegal labor bribed the judge and jury.
Happens every day.

Lives in Iraq are only $2500 a head ... that's what we paid to the
families of some innocents slaughtered recently.

But if you endanger Juan and Maria, the Bush family gardener and maid,
you get life in prison.

Meanwhile our justice dept.s are eager to hunt down Mexican drug
dealers, not to prosecute them but to offer them the chance to put 2
border guards in jail and sue our government ("I was just smuggling
some dope peacefully, man, and this crazy dude shot me ... I want
justice, man!").  Who made that decision, Cheech or Chong?

Meanwhile we continue to grant illegal aliens rights that Americans
don't have, pissing everyone off BUT NOT YET TO THE POINT THEY SHOULD
BE.  The American people are an ignorant people, easily cowed by their
leaders.

And our current President is a snake.

Yeah I know you agreed.  I read your posts and appreciate all the great
information you bring.  I was just venting my anger for everyone else.

Now, for the good news .................

justice will be done in prison.

Any bets on how long this guy will live among a general population that has
a large number of violent Hispanics?

I would think less than six months.

Time and time again, prison inmates handle doling out justice our courts
can't or won't.

And, I think that the courts are wising up, too.  Knowing that to send such
people to prison for life is a death sentence, and that if they impose the
death sentence, there is little likelihood that it will be carried out in
the convicted person's lifetime.

Dead within six months, I'd say.

I don't know if they're cowed so much as they realize nothing will be
done since both parties are paid fortunes by the corporations  that
make even bigger fortunes off the cheap illegal labor.

AMERICA = TOTAL CORRUPTION.

If enough Republicans can show favor to a Tom Tancredo rather than a
John McCain, we can and will see the will of the people done and
illegal aliens all over America will be scurrying back down South as
fast as their bicycles and SUVs will take them.

Yeah, and this sentence coming from Texas is shameful.
He should have got the death penalty - for hauling a truck load of wetbacks
into the country.
Then he should have had the sentence commuted for killing some of them.

And every time you and your dying crowd use epithets such as "mestizo"
or "wetback", lawmakers grow more confident in their belief that their
decisions and plans are the appropriate path to follow (the one that
leads to citizenship), in order to extirpate the white tumor.

The only tumor here, is between your shoulders.
Why don't you extract it with, say, a .45 ACP round fired from a weapon of
your choice.

Have you discussed those thoughts of self-pointing a firearm with your
mental health provider?

Incidentally: I am as white as you can possibly get (except albinos).
The only thing is that I belong to the majority, the good ones.

I wasn't self-pointing, you were, cretin.

Nope, my hair is brown. Does that mean the I don't qualify to get the
better contracts for my company? (I don't qualify as an employee, as I
am in the hiring side).

Since you are so adamant about giving special privileges to people with
certain physical characteristics, I propose that we should base the
hierarchy on the smell of the farts. Let's get a hold of a
smell-o-meter and base all the appointments to those who have a certain
highly desirable aroma.

Would you care to list all your personal achievements that your blond
hair has afforded you? (notice that: "my daddy did such and such" or
"my grandpa' achieved this or the other" are NOT acceptable answers).

No, it means your blood is tainted.

I never wrote such a thing, so what I can conclude from your paranoid
rambling is thus: take your pills, freak.

Some people have brains.
Some people have money.
Some people have artistic talent.
Some people have capacity for hard work.
Some people have athletic abilities.
Heck, some people have a nose to distinguish a good wine.

Then there are those whose only remaining asset is a desperate cling to
a group they perceive to belong. Presumably, their ancestors had some
of the qualities above, and that has got to count for something, right?
Right?  Pleeeease? Right?

They have to be given preference for jobs and other positions, or homes
and respect because their ancestors managed to arrive here first. What
their ancestors did is transitive through generations...

RIGHT!?

But then, aren't we all racist rip-offs of the American identity?

When the white man came to this continent, he found a large population of
"ignorant" people where there were no taxes, women did ALL of the menial
work, and the men hunted and fished.

They said, "We are going to improve your way of life."

I would say that the truest color of a REAL American with more than twenty
generations of heritage and residency would be slightly darker than the WASP
supremacists who spew they are the chosen ones.

Just MHO, and I could be wrong .................

"Mestizo" isn't even derogatory, nimrod.
