Good J-Walking Gravy!

In North Las Vegas, Nevada, over the weekend, police issued 206 citations to
drivers for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.

They were concerned by four fatalities this year of people J walking.  They
had an undercover cop J walk, then ticketed the people who wouldn't stop.

Why didn't they ticket the J walkers?  Clueless morons.  It showed many
people J walking.  Mothers with babes in arms.  Another with one in a
stroller, and two under five years old.  They looked like a bunch of quail.
Well, actually not, because all the quail I have seen were much more
organized.

Most of the J walkers looked deficient of intellect.  All were minorities.

Last weekend, a family went shopping.  The man and woman went into the 99
cent store.  They left four kids to play in the parking lot.  One of them, a
five year old, was riding a bike.  He drove off a curb, fell off his bike,
and right under the wheels of a garbage truck.  The news made references to
"this is the x-th fatality involving a garbage truck in the past year" but
made no mention if the family was cited for child neglect.  Now they can be
arrested if they leave a child under eight in the car.  So far, I haven't
seen any DA action in this case.

Sheesh!

No sh.t.  In most areas, J-walkers do not have the right of way.  I'd stop
for one anyway, but not because it's legally required, because it's not.
Apparently vegas does things a little bit differently and with all the
tourist traffic, it's no wonder so many people are not aware of this.  -Dave

They probably have an arachic law that gave peds right of way at all
times over those new fangled automobiles that only those stuck up rich
folk had as toys. Of course in the modern era, allowing peds right of way
where-ever and when-ever is just problematic and cannot work to have any
sort of reasonable traffic flow at big-city scales, and certainly not
without a complete redesign of how roads are built and function.

This makes for a great revenue grab, as it is the sort of law people
break every day without even knowing it exists.

It's so confusing.  One week they are doing a story on j walkers getting
ticketed, and the next week it's a story on the drivers being cited.

AND, this was in NORTH Las Vegas, a really "different" place.

All of the concealed carry laws are suspended in NLV, so I have to be very
mindful of when I am in NLV.  They do give you a hint, though.  Las Vegas
street signs are green, NLV are blue.

When the story started, I thought, "Gee, good, they're going to be citing
some of those idiot j walkers."

They did write some at posted crosswalks, and those were justified.

But to have a UC j walk and then cite them?  I wonder if those will fly in
court ..............

"They wrote 116 tickets for that violation[jaywalking], 36 for
driver's license violations, 20 for failure to carry proof of
insurance, 21 for violations of seat-belt and child-restraint laws, 11
for license plate or registration violations, and two others for
miscellaneous offenses."

Other than that, your arithmetic seems ok.

Uh... maybe because... at least, according to you... the
"jaywalker"... was an "undercover cop"...?  They don't cite undercover
cops baiting "johns" for soliciting either, oddly enough.

It?  What is "it"?

Crap, man.  Can't you just take the main points for their face value?  Your
world must be C-O-M-P-L-I-C-A-T-E-D.
