Driver fined for eating his sandwich

PAUL SIMS and LIZ HULL - UK Daily Mail
Friday, March 8, 2007

A salesman has become the first driver to have points put on his licence
for eating a sandwich at the wheel.

Keith Pemberton was also fined £60 after police stopped him for driving
without due care.

He was pulled over and given a fixed penalty under the same law which
forbids motorists from using mobile phones.

Introduced at the end of last month, the ban covers all drivers who are
not fully in control of their vehicle.

Mr Pemberton, 29, spoke of his shock yesterday, claiming he had no idea
the mobile ban also covered his cheese and pickle sandwich.

'In my mind, I was completely in control of the car,' he said.

'You see people putting on makeup and all sorts of things at the wheel.

I'm all for this as distracted drivers are killers and maimers. This is
one more reason why window tinting should be banned so cops can more
easily catch these creatures before they run over a kid.

My tires are fine.   Only got about 10K on them.  Cheapies, but they work.

And BTW this thread is about drivers who eat, not bald tires, you moron.

Then why are you talking about tinted windows?

It's about safety.  Who said anything about bald tires?  You (re)
admitting to something?

Can't you figure out anything? Cops can't see what the driver is doing if
the windows are tinted. THINK

This thread is about whatever we in the r.a.d cabal (tinc) say it is
about. And BTW, *you* are *not* a member of the cabal (tinc).

Looks like I won't be driving in the UK anytime soon. I don't always
drive while eating with sandwich in hand but I will if I don't have
any time for lunch! =D

Well then, you're a psychopath. How many kids have you murdered by your
distracted driving??

Logically, if eating a sandwich is prohibited than so also should be smoking a
cigarette or taking a sip of a drink. Fiddling with the car audio must surely
come close too.

I strongly dislike legislation being hijacked for purposes that weren't the
original intent.

Yes indeed. Drinking and smoking should also be banned. And letting people
have radios and CDs in their car is total insanity. Drivers have been
brainswashed into thinking that driving should be fun and to hell with
safety.

Even before this law came in a woman was successfully prosecuted for drinking
from a bottle of mineral water whilst in a traffic line IIRC.

Some cops are idiots.

Sounds good to me.  Distracted drivers and deadly criminals and i say stop
coddling them.

Finally someone with a lick of sense..
..

It seems that Speedy and his allied agroraphobics (a.k.a. spineless
sheeple) should lead the way into 'The Brave New Sheeple World' by
personally introducing and using the Sheeplemobile...

Made of a durable polyethylene outer shell, its modest exterior-
identical to that of a plastic oil barrel mounted on baby carriage
wheels and powered by an economical chain saw motor - belies the posh
comfort afforded by layers of foam packed into the completely
scrutable  transparent car body around the sheeple driver.

Cost is no object when neurotic obsession with obiesient safety and
security is concerned.
Equipped with Her Majesty's chartered spy-eye pinhole cameras every
sheeple driver movement can be monitored to assure strict adherence to
proper sheeple driving instructions.

And when all else fails, failure results only in the elimination of
the offending sheeple driver himself - whether they veer under
oncoming buses or dump trucks - and not in any damage to normal
vehicles or people.
