Moron Eddie Griffin Crashes $1,200,000 Enzo

This idiot was only moving about 35 MPH when he lost control and
crashed into a wall. The owner of the car, who was interviewed on
camera, didn't appear to be upset at all. My guess is he's one of
those jaded super-rich guys, was already bored with the car, and so
he's happy to collect the insurance payout and go buy himself a
Porsche GT or something.

Moron Eddie Griffin Crashes Ferrari During Practice
March 27, 2007, 5:51 AM PDT

Moron Eddie Griffin was uninjured when he crashed a Ferrari Enzo into
a concrete barrier at Irwindale Speedway while practicing for a
celebrity charity racing event Monday, according to broadcast reports.

"The brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the
brother can't drive," Griffin told reporters.

Car owner Daniel Sedek says the car was a total loss.

The car was one of 400 made and worth $1.2 million, according to
Sedek.

Football star Reggie Bush and martial arts star Jackie Chan are also
scheduled to participate in the event, held in conjunction with the
April 13 premiere of the movie "Redline," which Griffin stars in.

I'm pretty sure he had just taken a 'crash' course in manual shifting.

It is a sin that cars like these are usually owned by people who cant
appreciate them or drive them worth a damn.

Doesnt Paris f.cking Hilton drive a Mercedes McLaren?! What a waste of a
fine machine.

In another part of the interview - not in the KTLA video - the guy says
his first thought was that he hoped Moron Griffin was okay and when he
saw him get out of the car, then he thought about his "poor car".

I was expecting him to say that when he saw Griffin was okay, he wanted
to kill him.

I wonder why they're not releasing the continuous video - it appears to
be cut so you see him driving fine one moment and then cuts to where he
hits the wall.

I think there were a few different cameras rolling.  This video is
continuous and shows the impact from a better angle:

Now that I see it, I think the biggest act of stupidity was in setting up
that course. Even in an autocross event where people who have half a clue
or more are running their own cars there is an effort made not to have
turns where people will understeer into concrete barriers.... especially
concrete barriers placed there so someone can stand there and watch.

Even worse, thise wasn't a typical autocross event, but one where
clueless entertainers are driving cars way over their head. Just stupid.

Now if the drivers were paul newman and james garner or walter payton
if were still alive (beyond that I am out of people famous for other
things that have/had racing experience) then maybe it wouldn't be as
stupid..... but obviously that's not who was driving.

If we're going to play this game, does Peter Revson count?

LOL that's why was asking what the rules were.  He wasn't an actor, but
if he hadn't been a racer, we'd still probably have vaguely heard of
him, as he was somehow related to the Revson of Revlon fame.

That's right - those K-rails should have had bales of jay in front of
them at the very least.

I've seen worse.

A couple years back, just before the new Mustangs were scheduled to
hit the showrooms, Ford held a preview event (which I attended) at
that very same speedway. They let a bunch of people with unknown skill
levels drive around a similar course in Mustang GTs. Nobody hit a
K-rail while I was there, but on more than one occasion someone took
out a bunch of cones (in one case a cone got stuck underneath the
car).

Cone death = fun; hitting solid objects = bad.  There's a subtle yet
important difference...

There definitely were - that's a completely different angle from the
video I saw on Scott's KTLA link (which was the same footage Fox News
showed).

Damn - I suspect he was over 35 at that point, but still shows he is an
idiot driver.

On Fox, they showed an interview with Griffin in which he said something
like (i.e. don't count on this to be verbatim): "You don't drive a
Ferrari at 50 miles per hour, I was going more like 90".

It's tough to judge from the video, but that looked like a little more

One of the few bad sides of having a limited slip differential (or worse
yet, a locking differential) is that you get power on understeer.

It looked and sounded like Griffin was making a hard right turn, got on
the brakes, locked them and slid straight into the wall. From the video,
it doesn't appear that the car is actually making much of a turn.

Typical amateur reaction, or that of someone who grew up with antilock
brakes. Had he gotten off the brakes, the car probably would have
followed the front wheels pretty well. Heck, my SUV would have made a
better turn (and then fallen on its side).

He said later that a cone had gotten jammed in the front wheelwell and
that's why he slid.

They claimed the car was totalled, but it looked repairable to me;just the
front clip needed repair/replacement.
I also heard a blurb somewhere on TV about it possibly being a cheap copy
and a publicity stunt.

That might explain why the wheels were cranked over hard right. But that
doesn't explain the sound of skidding tires and why the car wasn't
following the direction the wheels were turned but sliding straight.
Classic symptom of the front wheels (both of them) being locked. Is he
claiming he ran over two cones?

Maybe. Does that car have a monoque chassis or tubular frame. The former
might be difficult to straighten back to spec. if the frame has twisted
(likely).

OR, they could get together with :

Maybe he locked up the brakes after the cone tossed him out of control?
He IS an amateur,after all.

I'm not familiar with the Ferrari's construction(I doubt a tube frame),but
today's body shops are supposed to be capable of straightening warped unit
bodies.Maybe some cutting and rewelding would be needed. If it were carbon
fiber monocoque, then that would be a problem.Didn't look carbon
firber, though, that shatters and splinters.Maybe aluminum construction?

It seems reasonable that that Ferrari could be repaired, but it will not be
worth as much as it used to.(or maybe more since a celeb crashed it!)

It would still be a nice fun car to drive!

TMZ is just askin' ... what's wrong with this picture?

Eddie Griffin's ultra-expensive crash in a $1.5 million Ferrari Enzo
has been all over television and the Internet today, but could the
pricey wipeout really be a brilliant marketing ploy?

In the video obtained by CBS2 News in Los Angeles, it shows the car
slamming into a concrete barricade. But, to quote Dr. Henry Lee from
the O.J. Simpson case, "Something wrong."

Roll the video and take a close look at the guy standing next to the
concrete barrier. He doesn't even flinch as the car comes near. Also,
it's pretty interesting that after the crash, Griffin joked it up,
saying, "Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that,
but the brother can't drive."

This isn't the first time that one of Daniel Sadek's high-priced cars
have been wrecked. During production of his movie, "Redline," two of
the producer/real estate investor's expensive Porsche Carrera GTs were
totaled during filming. One of the collisions was designed as a stunt.
The other was an accident.

Eddie Griffin's publicist told TMZ, "Eddie was crying this morning."
He added Sadek "has no car in his garage now." We're guessing Sadek's
license plate doesn't read: "My second car is a Toyota."
