Texas Woman Kills Toddler While Splashing Kids With Car

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

DENISON, Texas —  Denison police have arrested a driver who tried to
splash some neighborhood children with her car, but killed a toddler
when the vehicle hydroplaned.

Terri Elaine Perdew, 47, lost control of her car as she attempted to
splash a group of children playing in some water near an intersection.
The victim, 14-month-old Zachary Duncan, was sitting on a curb with his
mother. The boy died after the accident. His mother was treated for
minor injuries.

Denison police charged Perdew with manslaughter.

Lieutenant Mike Eppler said Perdew told police she had splashed the
children the first time she drove by, and was trying to do it a second
time upon returning.

Eppler said either Perdew thought splashing the children was funny or
they had asked her to do it.

I predict all charges will be dropped. After all, this is Texas where

There's a big difference: Laura was a wet-behind-the-ears teenager in
her alleged incident.  The killer splasher was 47 and should have
known better than to pull such a juvenile stunt.

Hand it to Texas: if the manslaughter charge sticks (I do realize that
"if" is a huge word), execution may be an option, and should be since
the victim was under 2.  No evidence of alcohol in this incident, but
that kind of stupidity does not require alcohol.

I have to rule this a good kill for Darwin. No 2YO should be allowed to
be playing anywhere near a road or where any type of machinery can be
used to create a "splash," such as this. Since this kid was too young to
know better, the kid's parents should have and we can only assume that
this particular stupid gene resided in the kid also. Now, all Darwin has
to do is get the kid's siblings (if applicable) and the parents and the
gene pool will be much better off. Score one for Charles.

No, I don't think that's a *big* difference.  You're supposed to have a
certain level of adult responsibility when it comes to driving a car.
The defense "But I'm a wet-behind-the-ears teenager your honor" just
doesn't cut it.  That's the equivalent of "I didn't get good
intelligence" with her dipshit husband.

Tell that to the Texas LEO, if any of them from the time are still
around.

No, it won't be a capital case.  Manslaughter is not a capital charge
anywhere in the U.S.   She'd have to be committing another underlying
felony, or it would have to be a premeditated killing *and* meet a
special circumstance clause (lying in wait, multiple victims, murder
for hire, those are the principal ones, IIRC killing a LEO is another
one in Texas).

Funny thing, if she'd killed her own kid, she probably wouldn't even
be charged; the collective whine would be that "she'd suffered
enough".

But kill someone else's kid and you're toast.

Must have been just horrible beyond belief for the mother, to sit
there, see the car coming, not have time to do anything and see her
toddler get killed.  The guilt, wondering if she could have done
anything, having it happen right in front of her.  Unimaginable.

Good quote.  I'd call that the Mel Gibson rule.  But you realize it
has *nothing* to do with this case.  The moron just thought 3,000
pounds of steel on a residential street made a nice play toy.  She'll
get a sentence of less than ten years on an involuntary manslaughter
charge.  I doubt the d.a. will let her plea bargain, since it's an
easy conviction.

HAHAHA. And WTF does laura's age have to do with it, you criminal
coddler??. Next you'll be saying people with red hair should be allowed
to commit manslaughter.  You are an idiot.

You seem to have no problem with flamming idiots like yourself being
allowed to commit manslaughter or worse.

Corrected that line for you.
