Is it more dangerous for a car that's low to the ground ( e.g. Mazda
miata ) to hit a deer? I would think the deer would come right through
the windshield into you, no? Any insurance studies on this?

Saabs are specially designed to survive hitting a moose. More to ensure YOU
survive actually. A deer doesn't have quite the same mass though.

Go get the biggest SUV you can get your finance payments around, and
don't worry about those pesky deer.

Seems to me it would deliver a more glancing blow the lower you are.

The wife of a friend hit a deer near my house in a minivan.  Legs came
through the side window, deer stuck in the wind shield.  Blood and
guts anhd fur everywhere, INSIDE the minivan.    Her kid luckily
wasn't sitting on the side where the deer broke through.  Easily could
have been killed.  They thought she was badly injured at first, but it
was all the deer blood that splattered on her.

>From myi experience as a dispatcher, it doesn't seem to matter the
size of the car or the animal hit.  They all seem to rotate up and at
least _try_ to come through the windshield.  Saw it with a horse/car
(equivalent of a small car/deer sizewise) came right into the car.
Squad car on code run/bull. Was middle of night and black bull. Hit
right fender to a.s.  rotated up and took out both passenger side
windows, also painted the car and passenger side (inside) brown with
excrement.

Oddly enough, an ex of mine did hit a deer in a Miata; no damage to
her but the car was pretty banged up (although fixable.)  I think it
threw the deer right over the car.

The dad of a guy I knew back east hit a deer in Michigan with a new,
"check every block and add some more" '64 Studebaker Cruiser (full
size 4- dr top of the line)
The deer ended up in the passenger seat, dead.
Dad survived OK. Cruiser was great for stripping.
