Saw a Corvette today that probably explains why the local cops seem to
have lost interest in me. It was a C5 Corvette with a vanity plate
that reads "VYL8TR" (violator). It had hood nostrils like a Trans Am;
it had colorful flames painted on the front and sides; it had gauges
mounted on the A-pillar; its fuel pump made an annoying whine.
Everything about this car screamed "I am a flagrant, chronic violator
of the speed limit." Little old me in his boring stock C6 just can't
compete with a car like that in the "Cop Magnet" department. :)

Maybe the cops recognized the sick-calf-poo yellow and figured you
weren't worth dropping the donut. :)

What are the odds that the C5 you saw is normally operated in SLOTH
mode?

"Sick-calf-poo yellow?" You've been reading too many GPSTroll posts, I
think...

It certainly wasn't very Slothy when I saw it. The driver seemed to
want to prove to me that his older Corvette was faster than my newer
one. :)

I assume you are mentioning Mr. Piss-Yellow troll.  OK, I admit it...I
once drove a puke green 1972 GMC pickup many years ago.

The Corvette drivers I see around here normally stick with normal
traffic flow.  It's hard to get someone to admire a Corvette if going
over 90, unless that someone is a passenger in that Corvette.

A Corvette is on my Round Tuit list (if I manage to get a Round
Tuit)...but probably a '63.  The back window style is classic.

Ha!  My grandfather bought a '73 Chevy pickup new...  I bet it was the
same color.  He ordered it; picked "Forest Green" from the brochure.
I'm guessing they didn't include color chips, because it was the
sickliest looking "forest" color I ever saw...  My dad still owns the
truck, but it's now painted a more appropriate shade.

They got him again in '76 when he decided he needed a 4WD... this time
he got a cream/tan exterior, but the "buckskin" interior was actually
almost orange... wups...

My '75 maverick was bought off the lot by my grandparents. The color
didn't have a name really.... I think the only name I found for it was
'light green'. It was color 42 if memory serves. Think beige with green
in it.... Green interior... lime gold mostly. I had it painted '72 Dark
Green metalic....

One of the best shades of green I remember on a car was on a '71 Dart
I drove in high school.  The shade of green was similar to a well-
maintained lawn.

Two colors that only look good when washed are IMO black (as in a 1989
GMC Jimmy I drove in the early 90s) and white (as in my next car, a
1989 Pontiac LeMans).  2 days without a wash on those colors looks
like several months away from the car wash.

My current ride, a 2004 Jeep, has a cool maroon color.  I've had good
feedback from local observers, even when not that clean.  Sure, I
sacrifice a bit of gas $$$ but I'm not having to support the Japanese
economy in addition to the Mideast economy, and it would take an ice
storm to stop this piece of work.

My father's 1972 Matador was a pretty fugly shade of green. Then
again, I don't think I've ever seen a NICE shade of green on a car.
Green and cars just don't seem to go well together, although that
never seems to stop the car makers from trying...

Car makers keep making crappy greens. There are numerous good ones.
Here's a few good ones:

1972 Mustang Dark Green Metalic.
1968 Shelby Mustang Dark Green
1997 Mustang Pacific Green Metalic

Aston martin I think had a nice green inside the last decade too...

Was that the dark metallic green that just tended to olive?  I know it
was available in '67 but not sure how long it lasted.  Very similar to
one of the popular colors for the '56 Studebaker Golden Hawk, called
"Ceramic Green" there.  Unbelievably great color, even though it
doesn't sound like it the way I describe it.  I believe that Aston
Martin used a very similar color in the 70's (at least that is what
PPG told me to use when researching modern paint colors for my '56.)

Silver, however, looks the same from 20 feet away clean or filthy :)

One of my favorite colors for a car, although I will probably never
own a car this color, is that copper metallic color, most recently
seen on a new Lotus.  Really unique yet looks good, but very eye-
grabbing.

Of course they do - every cop within range is just DYING to write them
a ticket, so they have to be on their extra-best behavior!

>It's hard to get someone to admire a Corvette if going

I don't drive a Corvette (or any other car) to be admired. Hell, I
don't even wash mine all tht often, so it's covered with dirt, tree
sap, bird sh.t, etc. I don't drive it for how it LOOKS, I drive it for
how it DRIVES. :)

>A Corvette is on my Round Tuit list (if I manage to get a Round
>Tuit)...but probably a '63.  The back window style is classic.

My 2005 is also destined to become a classic. Like the '63 split
window coupe, which was only made for one year (in '64 they got rid of
the center divider and used a single piece of glass). At the time,
most people HATED the split window design. Some owners even cut the
piece out and fitted a single-piece rear window in the new opening. In
time, however, the '63s came to be apprecited for their uniqueness,
and the dumbasses who modified their '63s to remove the center divider
came to regret their decision. Other people took '64 - '67 models and
ADDED a center divider, making a fake '63.

The '05 Corvettes have the "Pillsbury Doughboy" steering wheel, which
was replaced by a three-spoke steering wheel from the Pontiac Aztek
for the 2006 model year. Like the split window in 1963, the Doughboy
steering wheel is almost universally hated by contemporary owners, but
once we gain the perspective of time it will be a highly-sought-after
collector's item. The 2005 models also lack the FUGLY little "GM"
badges on the bottom edge of the quarter panels. Finally, mine is
"Millennium Yellow" - a color that is now discontinued.

But enough about my "in-vette-ment." :)

I remember seeing a severely chopped '32 Ford with what appeared to be
an early (354/392) Chrysler Hemi poking over the fenders driving down
US-50 at exactly 54.5 MPH.  It's gotta suck driving such a blatantly
fast vehicle because you know heads will turn whenever you drive by,
including the ones you don't want to notice you :(

In the chicago area there was this purplish colored lambo, the driver
always doing 55mph in the left lane. I saw it 2-3 times on different
expressways. Haven't seen it for years now.

Odd you should mention that, I just saw a maroon-to-purplish
Murcielago not a quarter mile from my house this AM.  Coming the other
way though so I didn't really pay attention to his speed.

At least the '32 driver was in the right lane (had a full head of
white hair too, I guess only the old guys can afford the really cool
toys.)

I better not see that car or it'll have 4 slashed tires too.  I don't
coddle speed criminals or any other kid-killer.

Maybe Scott would like to forward this to the local PD to let them know
that there is a vandal going around in SoCal slashing tires. Tell 'em to
look for a POS GM product with CO plates, bald tires, a stuck horn (even
they should be able to spot that one) and no emergency brake hanging
around places where Corvettes tend to gather. After all, we can't be
coddling criminals.

BTW, Scott (going off topic) are the juries out there idiots or what?

IIRC, on the murder charges, yes, but he won't have a LA jury this time.
I was referring to what's his name (some actor) who just got a mistrial
because the jury couldn't understand the judge's instructions. Happened
in the last day or so.

Bingo.

It's a pity he provides no photos of the back of the car - it has some
pretty interesting custom LED taillights. I can't even begin to
imagine the amount of time and money that went into that car...
