I assume the risk for pedalcyclists will undergo a similar increase.
Maybe I should drive to work next week? :)

Study ties time shift, pedestrian deaths
By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer Fri Nov 2, 10:35 PM ET
WASHINGTON - After clocks are turned back this weekend, pedestrians
walking during the evening rush hour are nearly three times more
likely to be struck and killed by cars than before the time change,
two scientists calculate. Ending daylight saving time translates into
about 37 more U.S. pedestrian deaths around 6 p.m. in November
compared to October, the researchers report.
Their study of risk to pedestrians is preliminary but confirms
previous findings of higher deaths after clocks are set back in fall.
It's not the darkness itself, but the adjustment to earlier nighttime
that's the killer, said professors Paul Fischbeck and David Gerard,
both of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

No - the killer is the reckless driver who hits the pedestrian.

Well, if the damn driver would use the lights, and the damn pedestrian
wouldn't jack around at night wearing dark crap, there wouldn't be a
problem, would there?
Was your fatal accident 3 1/2 - odd years ago a result of exceeding
the posted speed limit?

What, as if they were an african american, wearing all black, and
crossing where there isn't ample lighting? Of course; it's STILL the
driver's fault! LOL.

I was out test driving my bike last night. I would get off the road at
the slightest hint of a car. And would get on the sidewalk as soon as it
existed. I saw someone else riding a bike. No lights, a weird black and
white coat on that was sort of impossible to see in the day or night
camouflage driving right in the lane with his back to the oncoming cars.
If that person got hit, would you blame the driver?

Not in the least, and that type of incident is fairly common in my
area. I've even seen idiots, er, pedestains walking down the road in
the direction of traffic, in the lane closest to the median!
It's hard to get choked up when retards kill themselves.

No, the killer is the idiot pedestrain who steps into the road way
without being aware if oncoming traffic has stopped.
Fortunately they kill themselves.
Coming back from lunch the other day, three of my coworkers stepped
out into traffic because they had the light, but they failed to make
sure no oncoming traffic was approaching. I laughed my a.s off as each
of them leaped back onto the sidewalk to avoid the incompetent driver
who failed to yield right of way.
By the way, have you ever driven a car faster than the posted speed
limit?

Evidently; as lunch time rolls around, they come looking for me, and
not vice versa. :-)

Looks like I had better do my pedalcycling in the morning now????
Nah.... I've been riding late evening to night all summer. Why change
now?

Well, I'm changing my riding time to early afternoon just because I
can't stand having to deal with deer while riding at dusk ;)
Not only that, but it's getting a bit colder as well (though I know that
doesn't really apply to your location) :)

Just keep an eye out for those old rust bucket sedans with the
sandpaper covered tars.
