Girl, 2, sent fine for speeding at 65mph
Last updated at 16:44pm on 9th November 2007

A baffled mum was told by police to pay up or face court after her
two-year-old daughter was fined for speeding.

Cute toddler Ayesha Khan was apparently clocked driving 65mph in a 40mph
zone by South Yorkshire Police.

Despite mum Sharna's protests, dozy police insisted someone would have to
cough up or they faced a court appearance.

Mrs Khan said: "Ayesha is only two years old, she cannot even reach the
pedals of a car and can only just ride her bicycle."

Ayesha was allegedly flashed by a speed camera in on the A638 near York
Road, Doncaster.

Police finally admitted they had made a mistake after Sharna proved she was
in Huddersfield as the time and the car's registration didn't match their
car.

Mrs Khan said: "At first I assumed someone had been caught for speeding and
just give a false name, but the ticket was issued from a speed camera.

"If the car that was speeding on the police system registered to Ayesha,
then they would have needed her details to insure and register the car."

Dad Mohamed, 32, said: "Ayesha has not even left the house on her own yet.
If there is an ID fraud going on I want the police to help us get to the
bottom of it.

"I do not want anything on any records that may harm her future - that must
not happen."

Chief Inspector Ian Blint, head of roads' policing, said: "There has been an
ambiguity in the information supplied to us that caused the notice of
intended prosecution to be issued to Ayesha Khan.

"This is beyond our control and we apologise for any inconvenience and
distress caused by the Khan family.

"We are satisfied that there has been no deliberate attempt by anyone to
mislead."

South Yorkshire police have promised the Khan family they will be contacting
them to resolve the matter.

The pics are a must-see.  Ayesha in one of those Little Tykes cars and the
actual speeding ticket.  Ha!

Sounds like a few years ago when credit card companies were sending pre-
approved cards to people's pets.

She must have incrediblly strong legs....

But, apparently, there is a car outthere that is in this girl's name or
the cops have their records screwed up. If the cops had any morals what-
so-ever, they would look into that.

The only ambiguity is how to classify the police's motives in this case:
either sheer unmitigated greed or total and complete imcompetence.

Yeah, incompetence usually is.

ROTFLMAO! Did that cop say that with a straight face?

Of course they will: pay up or else.

Government doesn't make mistakes. Notice their first reaction was that
there were crimes committed, not that there was a mistake.

Nor does it have any morals what-so-ever.

Too bad that they don't have the brass to 1) admit the mistake (yeah, I
know I delusional) or 2) go after the real criminal.

> not that there was a mistake.

Only mistake occurred 9 months before most government workers were born.

This article ranks up there with reports heard on local news of Tasers
being used on school students as young as 6.  The only sound missing
from the background is the rhythm of goose-steps.

The pets thing I can understand, as people would fill out warranty
registration cards and stuff using their pets' names. But HTF did the
police get a 2-year-old's name as either the registered owner or the
driver of the speeding car?

It's obvious a mistake was made, but I can't quite understand HOW
(and, since the report comes from the mainstream media, there isn't
enough information to figure it out).

Maybe some ID theft going on? As in someone put got the girl's name
and address on a DL and used that to buy the car. For all we know, it
could be the parents who did it....

Government workers are not always the sharpest knives in the drawer,

Does it normally take 5 months from alleged offense (27/05/2007) to
ticket (31/10/2007)?

Perhaps the South Yorkshire Police are as slow and incompetent as you
are.

Oh man.  That comment gave the South Yorkshire Police the appearance
of making the Keystone Kops look like the Green Berets.  :^D

Off the keyboard, throgh te connections, nothing but Net.

We'll know it's gone out of hand when the police taser the kid in
