A moment of silence: motorcycle stunt hero Evel Knievel has passed
away at age 69.  The culprit: diabetes and a lung condition.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22045287/

His son Robbie (in his mid-40s) continues the family legacy.

My personal favorite display of his courage was the Snake River
attempt over 30 years ago.  i remember as a kid going through dozens
of bicycle axles due to short jumps.

He will be missed.

Had the red, white, and blue bicycle for doing those short jumps.
Never managed to screw up an axle though.

Dude was an a.shole.  Did some cool stuff with the cycle, but
generally speaking he was an a.s.  I'll miss his antics, but not the
man.  As an aside, thanks for including the word "attempt".  I'm sick
of people saying he jumped that canyon.  I've bailed out trying
backflips on my BMX - you don't see me saying I backflipped.
