....NOT!!!!

Was out and about today and had to cross the Lanier Bridge a few times
on my day's adventures. Noted every time a State Trooper who was pulling
people over after they had exited the bridge (i.e. at the bottom of a
2000 or so foot long 6% grade - if you are not watching what you are
doing, you can be going a tad (or 2 or 3) over the limit. IOW, he was
running his very own ticket writing factory). I guess it is the end of
the year and quotas do have to be met....

Anyways, my last adventure of the day was in the evening after dark and
as I was on US17 South apporaching the bridge, Herr Trooper had just
finished up with his last victim and after I passed the area, he did a
u-turn and subsequently was pacing me at about 200ft or so - he in the
left lane, me in the proper right lane. The posted speedlimit is 50MPH
on the bridge and I was doing 45MPH. At the apex of the bridge, Senhor
Trooper is still pacing me, I shift the transmission from overdrive (the
(D) position) to regular drive (the D position) and back off the
throttle, maintinaing a perfect 45MPH (still 5MPH under the limit) down
the bridge with El Señor Trooper still pacing me before he decided to
speed up and pulled along side me at the bottom of the bridge where he
proceeded to do a median U-turn after passing the turn for the Jekyll
Island Causeway (funny that he couldn't use the intersection for his
maneuver, he had to do so in an odd place) and I went on my merry way,
keeping to five under the 55MPH limit as the GSP has been patrolling
this stretch of road rather heavily today.

<sarcasm> To Monsieur Trooper and all the other GSP'ers that were
prowling GA25 from IH95 to the Jekyll Causeway and into the Brunswick
City Limits: I am so very sorry for obeying the speed limit (and the
other traffic laws) and throwing a monkey wrench into your little money
making scheme (Allah as my witness, I love Cruise Control). Lord knows
you need the money to save up for one of those new Chargers your
coworkers are using (I noted you are still driving a Crown Vic) and also
to pay for the gas for same. I feel so terrible for depriving you of
that much needed revenue, so you can have the cool toy like your
buddies. I sincerely hope that my little stunt of obeying the traffic
laws doesn't keep you from meeting your quota as you did waste valuable
time crossing the bridge and making your dangerous U-turn to set up for
the next trap as I failed to spring this one. In the spirit of the
season, I refer you to the, "Life," section of The Brunswick News (the
local fishwrap); more specifically the, "Help Wanted," section with a
plethora of real jobs listed so that one day, you too can afford one of
those nice shiny new Dodges.

Unsincerely and in total Sarcasm,

For a cop like that I would have done 35mph.

HAve to be careful about that around here. There's a fine line between
being overly prudent and obstructing traffic....

Spurious conclusion, you have no idea of the motivation behind the
LEO's velocity, or his proximity to you.

If he wanted to write you up for 85 to meet your imagined "quota"...
what, exactly, was there to prevent it...?

But, hey, if that's what it takes for you to bolster your self-esteem,
believe whatever you want, even if you have to imagine your evidence.

You don't honestly think that those troopers are driving in circles to
admire the scenery from the top of the bridge, do you? You've been
sniffing that diesel exhaust a little too much.

Credibility? I never said that the others he nailed weren't speeding.
Its just a little too concidental that they set up their operation on
the steepest grade in an otherwise flat county. Got news for ya: I
routinely see people struggling to climb this bridge - as I effortlessly
cruise by them at the posted SL in the proper gear - only to see them on
the other side fly past me riding their brakes. Can't imagine why the
GSP set up in this area.

But hey, if flaming me is what it takes to bolster your tiny little ego,
have at it. I can always use the laugh.

I got caught in one of those traps down in Georgia years ago.  A very
long, steep down grade, at least a mile long.  Posted 60.  Nailed me
on radar at 66 (or so they claimed).  Speed trap?  Well I was number
about 15 waiting until they had enough and led us all to the JP.  I
really don't understand it, every one was an out of state plate.
Amazing that locals never speed.

Once again GPSTroll demonstrates that his primary motivation is to
start outrageous arguments. Even though he knows "A" is the truth,
he'll argue "B" just to piss people off.

That's what makes him so entertaining. Push his buttons and the k0ok

That would be flagged as suspicious.  For safety reasons, nobody may
match my speed unless they are in the lane directly behind me and at a
proper following distance.  Patrol officers may not block the passing
lane unless they are responding to a hazard in that lane, and in such
case the car's blue light should be on to warn approaching traffic that
the lane is blocked.

the officer was trying to stay in a blind spot and unnoticed;probably
hoping the OP would speed up,thinking he was well past the speed trap.

That's stupid and unsafe, especially at night.

Which is yet another incentive to stand and applaud whenever one goes
down "in the line of duty."

Why? "Citizens" are not treated by the same rules as "cops" are; a lot
of the activities that get citizens ticketed or arrested are ignored
by police when they engage in the same activities. You screw up on the
paper work? It's your responsibility to fix it. They screw up on the
paper work? It's still your responsibility to fix it.

Those organizations REALLY need to focus within themselves before they
start looking to the citizenry for respect. Anyone who offers that
respect unearned is a fool.

Police also do a lot of good.   we would have anarchy without them.

Entirely false. If your local police force went on strike tomorrow, do
you think your neighbor would kill you and take your stuff? Would you start
killing, looting, and raping if the police weren't around?

Sure some criminals, who already do these things would get a bit bolder,
that is until their intended victims armed themselves. But that's about it.

> You think US police are bad,go to Mexico or other nations.

No one has argued they aren't striving for higher goals in corruption.

Heh heh, I live far enough out, that by the time the police got here
to respond to the call, it would all be over but the paper work. :-)

That's quite the extrapolation you've made there; no where did I say
they should die. I just said there's no real reason to be choked up
when a hypocrite goes down.

Why is it sick to wish death on out of control people who cause harm
and are immune from all the normal consequence by virtue of their position.

>Police also do a lot of good.   we would have anarchy without them.

Bribes are cheaper in Mexico, and no one believes their police are
anything but corrupt.  In the USA they're placed on an undeserved
pedestal.
