necromancer - 04 Feb 2008 17:30 GMT I nominate Carl Rogers for the Victor von Frankenstein "Wierd Science," award. Carl routinely pollutes r.a.d and m.t.r with spam advertisements for his, "instution," or his, "pride-of-joy," which would be the website named, "c*alrog," dot com, inspite of the routine spanking we give him and his website.
Carl's defense of said website includes an holier than thou attitude that he thinks that he knows the answer....if only somebody would listen to him, thus making him, IMO, a worthy recipient of this award.

He thinks that since he made up the concept (in his own mind and by calling people, "viatologists") that everyone should automatically bow down to his altar at his website. Except that nobody will listen to him except to mock him.

Here is his exact quote:
> I am a Psychology student, whose field is not precisely similar to hard > sciences like geology, and physiology. The Psychology field rests upon [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > situation, though many others are not aware of it. That's fine; not > everybody is aspiring to be a psychologist. I use operational definition. Be sure to note variations in spellings because he believes such things to make him more cosmopolitan...or something. This is ongoing.
Take care, Rich

Karl von Frankenrogers appears to have created some sort of monster with his shameless plugs and operational definitions.

I'm all for seeing krl rgrz winning many awards, but I'm not quite sure his science is weird enough to be Weird Science.
The shamelessness with which he promotes his website updates (like a grandiose 100-line post to plug the fact he added ONE LOUSY PICTURE of some highway in Utah or Paraguay or wherever that he probably stole from flickr) is k0okier than his science, anyhow. And the fact that he's banned half of the IP's of mtr regs from accessing his site.....and his videos where he's driving through intersections marked with stop signs without stopping.........and on and on. The hilarity never ends.
I think the Office of Village Idiot or even Kooki Information Minister would be more appropriate than the VVF, but that's just my two centavos worth.

I didn't think of the Village Idiot award when I made my nomination. I was bouncing between the VVF award and the Tony Sidaway Drama Queen Award, but upon reading the qualifications, he hasn't done a DQE recently so I went with the VVF Award since I consider what he does to definitely be wierd (at least by my definition). Since I've already done a nomination for Carl, I'll defer nomination for the VI or KIM to others.

I tried nominating Fruity Judy for an award a while back but it sank like a bag of (proverbial) bananahammers. Judy lacks either marquee value, or a set of Usenet posters annoyed enough by his/her antics over the years to the point that they go out of their way to subscribe to auk and vote on the Monthly award ballots.
It is a competitive process, though, and all things considered, if Judge Judy has to go up against someone like Bill Hughes, or Pam Russell, or Charles Shannon Lysaght, or Ray Karczewski, or any of the "Science Officers" of alt.astronomy, or a couple dozen other high-profile net.kooks, Judy's probably not going to win, unless he/she decides to cross post every last one of her "Criminal Coddler"/"Left Lane Blocking"/"Speeders Must Get The Death Penalty" rants to a.u.k, and then decide either to threaten a lawsuit or else threaten to "expose someone's RL identity".

Generally, I believe that SFB keeps it spew confined to a set number of newsgroups, whose members may not be aware of a.u.k and the awards.

I'm with Archie here. I don't see enough science, let alone /weird/ science in Carl Rogers yet to accept him for the VVFWS Award. Nomination respectfully refused.

>>> > I think the Office of Village Idiot or even Kooki Information >>> > Minister would be more appropriate than the VVF, but that's just >>> > my two centavos worth. Village Idiot looks to be too competitive this month. However, Kooki Information Minister is uncontested. I'd gladly accept a morph of this nomination and the 72 Raisins, which I'm going to reject out of hand, into nominations for the KIM and the Looney Maroon. Yes, I'm now convinced of Calrog's worthiness for this award. Besides Warhol needs an opponent, as I'm going to toss out Ken Pangborn's nomination, not because he's unworthy, but because I'm disenfranchising his nominator and seconder for being a couple of lame RLers with bad taste in friends and for disgusting enough kookologists (if someone else cares to re- nominate and re-second Kenny Kakes, I'll gladly accept /their/ nomination). Of course, that means that Calrog would have to run against Alexa. Good luck with that. :-)

Yep, that would get her noticed. Crosspost her into AUK and see what happens. We (tinw) could use some new blood in kooks around here.
