FYI, "African-American" is a term coined by a black panther activist by the name of "Malcolm X". Not all blacks are born of descendants of Africans. I refuse to accept the term because there are white people, and other colors who made up Africans.

A person's name has never been a distinguishing feature of a race. Daryl, and Ervin have been used by whites many times. "Daryl" was the main character in a movie played by a white boy.

How many non-jews can you cite named Israel ? How many non-blacks named Tawana or Lasheka or DeShawn or Shanice ? Non-muslims named Abbas or Mohamed or Abdul ? Non-Slavs ( Poles etc ) named Andrzej or Brygida ? etc etc

Bob Myers - 19 Feb 2008 19:14 GMT > How many non-jews can you cite named Israel ? Off the top of my head, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ("Bruddah Iz") comes immediately to mind.
> Non-muslims named Abbas or Mohamed or Abdul ? Especially in the U.S./Canada or in parts of Western Europe which have seen Arab immigration to any degree, you could find quite a few. I seem to recall that there is a non-Muslim Presidential candidate somewhere whose name is Barack Hussein, in fact...
No doubt that there's a pretty good correlation here, but it surely is not definitive. You cannot with 100% confidence determine a person's race through their name alone.

You can find exceptions to ANY rule, that does not invalidate the rule. Nothing in this world is 100.00000 % , except that fact that we will all die some day.

Bob Myers - 19 Feb 2008 20:26 GMT > In fact, when he was given that name, he WAS a Muslim. Naw, he wasn't. A newborn can't truly be said to have a religion in any meaningful sense. And his parents were agnostics at best anyway. You can worry all you like about what some OTHER Muslims might or might not have considered him, but that's hardly relevant to what he actually was or is.

A newborn can't truly be said to >have a religion in any meaningful sense. Muslims, Christians, and Jews all disagree with you. They each hold their children to be that religion at birth, as a matter of doctrine. BTW, since when did religion require any 'meaningful sense' ?

He is now apostate, according to the Koran. He has forsaken Islam.
He is now a long-time member of a black radical church that supports Louis Farrakhnan, as a matter of record.
Part of your problem in understanding this is, you keep trying to accord Western thought patterns and values to muslims and Islam. It doesn't work. You might as well say 'men think about things exactly like women do'. As long as you believe that, you will understand neither women nor muslims.
