Just like a trucker, this pilot puts his ontime performance ahead of
safety and tries to land instead of just going around and trying the
approach again - which he would up doing anyway...

There was this:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-plane-golf-course_web_02mar02,1,103
1622.story

No injuries were reported after a small plane made an unexpected landing
Saturday afternoon at a golf course in north suburban Lincolnshire.

Officials said it was unclear why the plane made a non-emergency stop at
the Crane's Landing golf course, which is operated by the Lincolnshire
Marriott Resort.

Further details were not immediately available, but the incident is under
investigation by the Lincolnshire police.

But it's even more strange... here is where it landed:

Here's the nearest airport:

spn=0.020055,0.031457&t=h&z=15&cbll=42.11792,-87.90825

Just follow Milwaukee ave north from the airport to the golf course.

I don't see anywhere where that could have gone better, except right
where he accidently gets the right wing too high and the wind gets
under it. Approach was fine until that point, ands when that happened
he did indeed go around.
Can't quite tell if he actually touched down or not.

Of course, trying to land in that crosswind at all may have been ill
advised- certainly looked to be about the max you could cope with.

He may also have been near fuel minimums, and perhaps could not loiter
until the winds were projected to drop a bit- if they were going to
drop at all, they may have been projected to increase.

Comparing a commercial pilot to a trucker- not an apt comparison, in
my view.

Left wingtip for sure contacted the ground.

The maintenance crew probably suited up in full biohazard gear to
replace the pilot's seat.

Looked that way to me too.

And I would assume, many of the passenger seats too.....

I also expect the grass to grow quite well at the spot where the
cameraman stood.

I don't think he touched down, but from what I could tell,  the left
wing did drag on the runway. Could have turned out much worse.

IMO, from right after where he passed over the camera, you could tell
that the plane was rotating badly and IMO, the pilot should have
aborted the attempt and gone around for another try.

Just going by thunderstorms here in GA, there is really no way to
figure that they will do. One minute can be perfectly clear, few
minutes later raging storm and few minutes later clear like nothing
happened.

Just my opinion, but same mentality - more concerned with getting in
ontime than in safely.

Only about 20kts. (157% of) beyond the max crosswind component spec'd
by the manufacturer (55-35).

Yeah, the opinion of one who refers to "yawing" as "rotating" and
suggests that a SOP approach technique is cause to abort a landing
must be must be posted to Usenet lest the community conclude the
poster has exhausted the subjects of which he knows nothing, yet
remains "knowledgeable".

Was the plane an Airbus, by any chance? :)

Accroding to the tags on the show, yes.

Heilige Scheisse...another reason it's recommended to have one change
of clothes in the carry-on luggage.

Saw the news footage on the local Faux News channel.  Nasty.
According to the report, no one was seriously injured.  Darwin is
thinking "Heilige Scheisse...wieder der Fehler.  Eine Bier,
bitte...oder einer Whisky."

Makes me wonder whether after landing the pilot went up to beat the
crap out of the air traffic controller for sending him on that runway.

However, I doubt that this qualifies for a GPSTroll Award...it wasn't
a Lahndartz Landing, and also did not occur in a crowded area.

That pilot is far too skillful to have come from the GPSTroll school.
A GPSTroll student would have crashed and burned the moment the left
wing touched the tarmac.
