Teen driver gets probation in trooper's death
By Kirk Mitchell The Denver Post
Article Last Updated: 03/06/2008 04:12:19 PM MST
An 18-year-old man who drove a pickup that killed a Colorado state trooper
and injured a second patrolman was sentenced today to two years of
probation, authorities say.
He entered a plea agreement to the charge of careless driving causing
death. The Denver Post is not revealing his name because he was 17 at the
time of the accident.
Trooper Zachariah Templeton, 27, died at Denver Health Medical Center after
the accident on Interstate 76 in Adams County. Trooper Scott Hinshaw, 38,
was severely injured.
The teen was behind the wheel of a 1994 Ford pickup and looked down for
some sunflower seeds on his console just before the accident happened,
Adams County District Attorney Don Quick said.
He swerved to avoid backed-up traffic on the highway and plowed into a
trailer that the two troopers were helping a motorist reload.
The driver, who apologized for the accident at his sentencing, faced up to
1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine for the misdemeanor.
District Judge Michael Cox fined him $1 and told him that every time he
pulls out a dollar from his pocket, he wants him to think of Templeton and
Hinshaw.
He also must pay more than $9,300 in restitution and other court fees.
Templeton left behind a 3-year-old daughter. Testifying at the sentencing,
his mother said careless driving causing death should be a felony offense
with lengthier penalties, Quick said.

Can't rank this one worse than third: are you again ignoring the
classic criminal-coddling of Ted Kanobeer? He's still part of the
Federal government and shows no signs of retirement.

Try $9,301 when including restitution and court fees. Even with a
falling dollar, that's still quite a chunk of change for anyone.
Perhaps you posted this in disappointment of not gaining a butt-pirate
target.
BTW...the good Imam is still praying that Allah hit you with the
conviction to come clean regarding your excessive-speed incident.

You are a legal ignoramus who does not understand the difference between a
fine and restitution. Anyway, only a nutbucket like you would say a cop's
life is worth only $9,000.

The vile and infidel swine and swine sodomizer, "Speeders & Drunk

S&DDAM admits to putting others in danger with its beater
(gramatical errors left as is):
"Foot pumps are a joke. I had one once and since the piston only moves like
2 inches it took 50 pumps to raise the pressure by one psi. Go with the
hand pumps where the piston moves around 15 inches. One of my tires has
exposed cords and i have to pump it up every week. "

I imagine he WAS a normal kid. Kids drive carelessly sometimes. It's
a crime. Usually there are no consequences, but the behavior is the
same either way. Kids drive carelessly. Even the ones that try to
be careful.
It takes a while to learn you can't let yourself look for sunflower
seeds when you are behind the wheel. Forget for half a second? You
can kill a father. Coould happen to any of us - either the killing or
the being killed..
If he's a good kid, and there is no reason to think he's not, he's as
greived about this as anyone, including the troopers's mother. I'll
bet that he''ll follow the judges instrucitons as best he can adn for
the rest of his life, he'll pull out a dollar and be on the edge of
tears.
It's a tragedy. it was a crime. But the kid is no criminal. Nothing
you do to him is gonna bring the troopers back. Nothing that you do to
him will prevent other kids from being careless. Why be vengeful?
Be CAREFUL out there.

No, the fact that you are allowed to remain free in an otherwise
civilized soceity is criminal coddling writ large.

innocent person.
