Hi Viatologists,

The Worldwide Highway Library (WHL), the premier roadside that features
content from three continents and the Middle East, has just indexed its
newest captures from Reno, Nevada and Antioch, California.  Six new pieces
altogether!  Those three videos and three WHL-360 presentations can now be
found in a matter of clicks.

E.g., let's say you wanted to query Nevada State Route 445 and check it out
again.  Just navigate the following way:

http://worldwide-hwys.calrog.com > Videos > USA > State Routes > Nevada >
Nevada State Routes

Enjoy!

Odds are you're working right now from the office.  So why not get WHL
updates sent to you in realtime form?  That's what our RSS feeds are
designed to do!  Imagine content getting delivered onto your screen when
you're writing new policies for your employees, or submitting a business
proposal for demanding clients.  The WHL can do that for you.  To subscribe,
simply enter the following links into your RSS reader:

http://worldwide-hwys.calrog.com/pwwh-rss.xml (Photograph feed)
http://worldwide-hwys.calrog.com/vwwh-rss.xml (Video feed)

It goes w/o saying, but the WHL has the widest assortment of technologies
for its global-based content:  RSS, WMV, Quicktime, JavaScript, advanced
JPEG compression and more.  We have published travel guides* in text as
well!  Come see why the WHL absolutely crushes the competition; our goal is
to help you travel and travel well.

OK, I sort of (SORT OF) was with you until the last line. Crush the
Competition? How, exactly, have you crushed the competition? And who
is competition anyway? Are we really competing against each other? I
thought the point of groups like MTR or sites like AARoads/the dozens
other fantastic state/region specific sites was to  share information
with fellow roadgeeks in hopes of making us all smarter/more
interested, not to compete against each other to see who can take the
most out of focus pictures/poorly constructed 360 degree thingamajigs.

CalQaeda makes his WHL sound like "a gift," but it's more like "das

How he has crushed the competition is a mystery to me. AFAIAC, I am
not in competition with anyone, including krl. Its his own delusions
of grandeur that make him think this is a competition.

IMO, that's exactly what m.t.r is. We discuss and produce/share photo
essays/videos of our areas and areas that we frequent - like I do with
Coastal Georgia and Northeast and Central Florida, Steve Williams does
in GA, FreewayJim does in the ATL and the parts of New England that he
frequents, MLOM does with MO and TX, the Comrade does in NY State and
too many others to mention do either through hosting sites like flikr
or photobucket or through our own websites or a combination there of.

The only one that is trying to make this a competition and ruin it for
everyone is krl. Fortunately, he is failing at that. I think the only
reason I haven't killfiled him is laugh vaule I get from reading his
posts and picking apart the whl360 thingies for the fault lines....

I've taken it upon myself to begin competing with Calrog. More to come
in an official announcement after my newest and greatest video
finishes processing on youtube

For chrissake - WHY????

Although it wouln't take too much competition to blow the videos of the WHL
out of the water.

It's very time consuming to make high quality videos like Freewayjim
and the comrade. So I whipped up the following:

I think it competes with Karl quite nicely

+1 for video shot at night.
+2 for making the right turn on red directly in the path of oncoming
traffic which had a green arrow.
+1 for sounding like Jerry Seinfeld
+5 for nailing the mindless Cal-El-style commentary on irrelevant
details "lotta airplanes flying around in the area."
+10 for the end graphic of the road interchange that looks like a
large intestine - a singularly appropriate metaphor.

Good job! :)

Carl claims the competition started when he went east and started taking some
photos. That caused the gribblenation.com and gribblenation.net crew to
figurative lift their legs and mark their territory, thus instigating the
competition -- at least the way Carl sees it.

No, we're not competing against each other. Carl may be tilting at windmills but
I don't think anyone else in this interest subset considers it to be a
competition.

Carl seems to be unaware(or ignoring) the fact that
we all do a lot of collaboration out this way, that, or he doesn't like
collective effort that doesn't serve his purposes. Whatever. If one us
finds something cool, we pass it along so *everybody* can enjoy it. There's
some duplication in subject matter between all of us-If you, or anyone,
including Carl came out here with a sincere desire to see some of the
country, I'd be happy to show you the stuff I know. There's no 'exclusive
territory'.

What about PHP, Javascript, AVI(playable on *any* OS), JPG, PNG, GIF, HTML,
MP3 and Cascading Style Sheets, oh, and Flash? All open-source and readily
available for any and all. Not to mention Linux-also free to all. Nothing
proprietary on the Experience, no claims made of superiority. It happens,
I'm there, and you see it. Now *that's* 'Life without Borders'.
