We're on a brief 6-lane section of what is mostly a 4-lane road.
Posted speed limit: 65 MPH. There is a PriuSloth doing about 55 in the
rightmost lane. OK, no problem - that's where he is supposed to be.
Up ahead, right before the road squeezes back down to 4 lanes, there
is a stale red traffic signal. The #1 and #2 lanes are stacked at
least 20 deep with stopped cars, but the #3 lane is clear because most
people know that the #3 lane is about to end and so they merge over to
the #2 lane well in advance. Not our friend Mr. PriuSloth - he flies
by all the stopped cars, manages to catch the light just after it
turns green, and at the last possible moment he forces his way into
the #2 lane, forcing several cars to brake sharply. At that point he
became a rolling roadblock, with a large backlog of cars streaming
around him on his left while he doddered along at PSL - 10.
No doubt he was feeling rather smug about his fabulous Sloth Coasting
technique...

Scott, I'll share my latest sloth story... I pull up to a light on a 6
lane 45mph posted road in the right lane behind a saturn driver. The
saturn driver slothes away when the light turns green. gets up to about
35 mph when I have a chance to move left and pass. So I do. Guess what,
sloth boy finds his accelerator and does ~55mph to pull along side me
and prevent me from returning to the right lane. I am now stuck behind
someone doing 40mph in the middle lane... For some damn reason on sunday
night the speed on this road drops from the usual 60-65mph to
40-50mph... why I don't know, it just does. The left lane is stacked
up behind a duckling.... so I look over to my right and saturn boy is
just grinning at me... I wait. I look again.. saturnboy grinning....
great... another tard that wants to play games. So eventually he speeds
off... ok fine... I move back right pass and get out ahead of him (he's
moved to the far left lane) I am going the speed limit an approaching a
light that may be red when I get there... so I move into the left lane
because that's the lane that's clear. Saturn boy moves right and puts
his pedal to the floor... great... I accelerate a bit then brake before
a known speed trap hoping that there's a cop there and he flies by me...
no such luck, he brakes and refuses to pass. So I've got saturn boy
behind me for a number of miles occasionally tailgating me then falling
way back... he's changing lanes frequently but not really trying to pass
either I gave him a couple chances to pass but he just sat back there.
Mostly I'm ignoring his dumbass and just plodding along at the speed
limit.
I turn left he follows... I turn in to the left lane and he goes wide
and fast into the right. I am doing the speed limit to pass someone on
the right who then finds his accelerator and ducklings.... I don't like
going over the limit on this road because of enforcement. Saturnboy
starts tailgating the duckling. Now normally I would just fade back over
to the right behind anyone who does the SL on this road but saturnboy is
making that difficult so f him. I am not going to risk a ticket with
sudden acceleration to shake the duckling. I can't brake to shake the
duckling either because saturnboy is sliding back and forth between
lanes... tailgating me, flashing his high beams then going back to
tailgating the duckling. I eventually can't take this
any more and pull into a left turn pocket... saturn boy rockets by
finger out the window.... I then get back into the lane and stop behind
him at a light. Dufus lets off his clutch and rolls his car back until
just before hitting mine then pulls back forward... joke is on
him... I am writing down his plate number just in case and don't
notice until he's pulling forward. light turns green and he rockets off
into the distance with everything his saturn can muster. I just plod
along at the limit and never see his dumb a.s again.
I think I am going to bike commute all summer... I just don't want to
drive any more.
