Helpful semi-driver blocks a cop!
So a couple of weeks ago the wife and I are on a trip to the midwest,
from the east coast, to visit some friends. We've been driving all
day, haven't seen any cops since NJ, and the radar detector hasn't
made a peep for eight hours. So, naturally, I'm getting a little
careless and come over a hill going about 35 over the limit... well,
of course there's some small-town cop there in a squad car and my
radar detector practically explodes. I watch in the rear-view mirror
as we jet by him, hoping he's sleeping or too busy eating some pork
rinds to notice, but nope - just my luck, he launches off the divider
and comes out into the left lane. He doesn't have his lights on yet,
so, technically, I'm not being stopped
I pass a couple of semis, not slowing down yet because the cop's still
a good ways back, and, I couldn't believe it but as I clear the
trucks, the trailing semi pulls right out into the left lane and just
stays parallel with the other truck, completely blocking the cop!
Suddenly it hits me - there's an off-ramp coming up, and the cop is
completely obscured by those trucks... I'm thinking to myself "Should
I? No... No... this is not a good idea..." but then, "ah, what the
hell, you only live once!" So we hit the off-ramp going about 90, lock
the brakes up and slide to a stop just at the stop-sign. A quick left,
and we stop just under the overpass. A tense couple of minutes later,
it's clear the cop never cleared the trucks before the off-ramp! LOL
he had no clue and just sailed by us...
We chilled out for lunch in some country town way down that road, then
got back on the freeway again. We actually passed the same cop, a few
miles later, who was too busy pulling someone else over to notice!
Somewhere out there is a big-rig driver who's got a drink comin.
Drive Safe,
Tito
