Remembering Ireland and its roads!

Hi Viatologists,

The time has come to shift the world's attention shift to the Irish isle!
This land is composed of two distinct countries, the Republic of Ireland and
Northern Ireland, where an intricate network of roads connects all of the
island's corners.  What once separated both countries was a well-defined
border--today, both Union and Republic motorists can freely pass w/o
cross-border hindrance and hassle.  This often-afforded convenience plays
its part in the growing diplomatic ties between Irish and British blood,
bringing a diverse unity much closer together.  Prior to the 21st century,
the A1/N1 crossroads was reported by local inhabitants as having
"slalom-like" barricades.

The Worldwide Highway Library, since 2003, offers views of the Isle's
motorways (a.k.a, "M-Routes"), northern primary Routes (A-Routes) and
Republic national roads (N-Routes).  From Dublin to Gallimh to Beál Feirste,
the WHL has you covered:

of)

-and-

Northern Ireland ...

Enjoy w/ a pint of Guinness!

Remember that, kids.  Diplomacy isn't between people, but between
hemoglobin!

Yes, it's absolutely fantastic that all these decades of British/Irish
and/or Protestant/Catholic UNITY is being brought closer together.  I'm
glad you're so adept at speaking plainly, as opposed to some people who
pretend to have a much greater vocabulary than they really do in order
to sound worldly and urbane.

Oh wai

And a good thing, otherwise those of us old enough to remember the IRA
would never have known that passage between RoI and NI was somewhat
restricted.  Thank heaven for those "local inhabitants" reporting this
important information!

I'm glad you have the knowledge; others who were previously unaware
now share the same distinction.  BTW, what's heaven?  Sounds like a
non-secular term for those who believe in an afterlife...  Correct me
if that's incorrect.

Agreed. The numbers and ad revenue prove it.  Hence one of the reasons

It's called "a pointedly snotty term when affixed to 'thank' as a
precedent used to express mock gratitude."  Glad I could clear that up
for you there, champ.

You keep on shifting that shift, Carl.  At least until Nissan gets wind
and starts getting nervous.

So that you can expose yourself to a never-ending barrage of criticism
over your cheap-a.s spamming, desperate need for attention, and
excessively ill-informed nonsense presented in a manner which is so
pedantic it draws even more attention to your inaccuracies (and
inadequacies)?

It can't be because posting here is increasing your traffic by leaps and
bounds, because there simply aren't that many people here, and most of
the ones who are either mock you or already have you killfiled.

Loaded statements, no matter what popular opinion suggests...  For a 63 year
old white man, you sure are pessimistic.  I wonder if Helen, Beverly and
Pamela agree...  Don't get your panties in a bunch--it's publicly accessible
information.

Hey, it's 'Idiot Christians' v 2.0! At least with Racist Roadsine Randy,
it's straight up angry ignorance, not angry ignorance poorly passed off as
intellectual/moral superiority from someone who hardly qualifies on either
account. I'm not religious in the least, mind you, but I figure if I ask
people not to shove their belief down my throat, I'm just as obliged not to
try and shove my lack of belief down theirs. Not like I expect you to

He lives in SF and makes "60-75k" a year?  Probably delivers pizza.  My
salary range is around... well, nobody's business, and Silicon Valley
firms have to offer at least a 50% bump to get me to move there because
of cost of living.  "60-75k" there is like 40k here.  And the guy who
manages -- not owns, manages -- the local comic shop makes more than
40k, if you dig what I'm saying.

I'm not so sure he "works" out of SF (where 75K is nothing) or Deming
(where 75K is huge). I guess I should go with my "Carl is a loser at

I SO laugh at your guys'  theories!  lol.  It's funny how none of this
ties into roads and the amount of energy you spend to "defame" someone
else.  Let's face it.  None of you can compete with the raw amount of
WHL content--so your life revolves around attacking someone's
character and bringing in evaluative opinions.  PATHETIC.

It must bother the sh.t out of you because I don't give a f*ck!  I
won't even waste time counteracting your claims--let your speculations
continue!  I could use a good laugh.

Okay, serious question here... and it's directed at Carl, but anyone
is welcome to chime in with response, pithy and sarcastic or not (as
it is entertaining);  What exactly is "raw amount of WHL content,"
Carl?  As far as I can see, as I've viewed your pages a few times,
most of your pages are little more than a photo, video, or spliced 360
montage from a single view point, from highways in several countries,
on several continents.  Speaking from pure motives, I do think it
interesting to view some of your content.  I've been to Russia a few
times and having any exposure to other places is interesting, but
sometimes your self-promotion makes it seem that your site is the
"Google street-view" of the world.  I differ, but it's only opinion.
So again I ask, just what is "raw amount," in this context?  As I see
it along lines of competition, aaroads has more "raw amount" of
content, solely covering the US interstate system, than your WHL has
"raw content," covering the globe.  But maybe that's comparing apples
to oranges, making the comparison moot.  As far as competition is
concerned, I arrive at my judgments on site traffic and reputation.  I
feel it's only fair.

~D
EAST COAST HIVE MIND - 19 Mar 2008 03:05 GMT
Any large site has 10 to 20 times the volume of 'content' that you can find
on CalBog dot Bong. I probably have more New England photos in toto than
CalBog has in total photographs. That's apples and oranges for sure, but
CalBog is attempting to compete on the 'My Penis is Bigger' principle, from
what I can ascertain.

That's a pile of crap! that joke is as old as the hills and ya didn't even
repeat it correctly. The gag went that a Jew was walking down a dark street
when set upon by a few thugs. they wanted to know what religion he was. Of
course the guy immediately tells them he is a Jew. And, "are you  a Catholic
Jew or a Protestant Jew?" was the next question! This was a popular joke
away back in the early 70's when Catholics were murdered and sometimes
literally butchered because Protestant thugs had kidnapped them on the
street hoping that they were indeed Catholics.(black humour was a defense
mechanism against what was going on on our streets at that time). So don't
try and belittle us Irish by repeating the above bullshit! If your Jewish
buddy was asked anything like you wrote, it would have been a complete joke
and would have been worded as I wrote it!

The other similar gag at that time was about the Jew walking down a dark
Belfast street and he was set upon by a masked thug. The thug of course
asked him if he was a Catholic or a Protestant to which the victim gladly
announced that he was a Jew. the thug grinned maliciously and as he pulled
out his very large knife sez..............................."I guess I'm the
luckiest Arab that's living in Belfast!"

Protestants were also murdered by the IRA for their religion. There is
not much of the old overt Protestantism left.

I'm organizing a protest against Sinn Fein's policy of allowing sex
offenders to work with our kids (next week).

That's not a joke.

Well, according to the comments on his MySpace page, he works for a
company called Ironport - I believe they make firewalls and other such
network security gear. Prior to that, he was a tech support drone for
a different company (Niveus Media). We know this because he used to
post here with his company information in his .signature, e.g.

Message-ID: <nLURg.5353$e66.2682@newssvr13.news.prodigy.com>

Perhaps he got fired from that job for screwing around on USENET on
company time? :)

Anyway, it's a pretty safe bet that his current job with Ironport is
also as a tech support drone, as I suspect a company that makes
network security products doesn't have very many Psychologists on its
staff.

Oh, and Carl: Don't get your panties in a bunch--it's publicly
accessible information. :)

I don't think he's in tech support.  I think the only "user interface

Country is a rather vague word (see below). For some meanings, NI is a
country, for others not. It is not an independent state, though it is
part of one. NI comes closest to meeting the definition of country at
5 below.

1 the territory occupied by a nation; "he returned to the land of his
birth"; "he visited several European countries"
2  state: a politically organized body of people under a single
government; "the state has elected a new president"; "African
nations"; "students who had come to the nation's capitol"; "the
country's largest manufacturer"; "an industrialized land"
3 nation: the people who live in a nation or country; "a statement
that sums up the nation's mood"; "the news was announced to the
nation"; "the whole country worshipped him"
4 an area outside of cities and towns; "his poetry celebrated the
slower pace of life in the country"
5 area: a particular geographical region of indefinite boundary
(usually serving some special purpose or distinguished by its people
or culture or geography); "it was a mountainous area"; "Bible country"

country within it's own rights, like it or not! Eugene is simply an

You're right, but I believe he said "Northern Ireland", part of the
United Kingdom. He could equally have said the land is composed of two
distinct countries, the Republic of Ireland and part of the United
Kingdom, but that meaning is not as clear.

Northern Ireland is as much a UK 'country' as England, Wales or
Scotland, and in fact has more autonomy than England or Wales within the
United Kingdom, having its own laws and political assembly, which
England does not. It has the same status as Ireland as a whole had
before the southern part became independent.

Like it or not, and you only have to look at historical maps of Europe
to see it plainly, countries change their boundaries and definitions
quite often, and break up and reform in different configurations to suit
the political situation or the mood of people who live there. If and
when those people change their minds, as guaranteed by the laws of both
countries, Ireland may become a single country. (As it was before under
the United Kingdom. Previous to that, it was probably never a single
organized political entity.)

May I say that your failure to grasp that concept is possibly more a
matter of having a prejudicial view of the country concerned.

Listen up buddy, it is not prejudical to be Irish and to refuse to accept an
enforced separation from the main part of our country...that country happens
to be called Ireland. There is no other country in Ireland regardless of
what you and thieving planters like Merrick want to believe. Our day has

Whether or not NI is a country or not, it's certainly part of a country, and
it's part of a different country to Ireland. As everyone but RSF has signed

Aye, the North and South are definitely distinct in terms of governing
bodies. For sure, Northern Ireland is definitely *not* administered by
the Republic of Ireland.  The influence of the South on Northern laws
is there, plus the aboriginal population is part of the North too.
That said, those of British blood have inhabited the land for
centuries, so it can also fair for resources and land to be shared
amongst that crowd too.

The British have had their influence and the South as well.  For
example, motorists drive on the left.  Up until a couple years ago,
IIRC, road speeds were posted in MPH.  The Four Courts is an example
of a majestic building that the Irish now use for similar practise.

If the two sides can throw their ideologies aside and just get
along...  That's my hope!   Economic exchange is the first step of
progress.

Those Orange day parades...  I leave my opinion aside on that one.
One thing's for sure...  It's very difficult fo find lodging in
Donegal and Galway during that holiday...

It was the best I could do from the distance I was at. I wanted to catch the
sun hitting Benevenagh, the flag, and the chapel tower. I got a couple of
boids for good value so I'm happy enough with it. I love getting pics of
Tricolours flying in Limavady so that I can mail them to my brother in
Canada. Such an outrage would have been absolutely unthinkable when he
emmigrated in 1977. He emmigrated from here because, like so many other
Catholics in towns like Limavady, and because of the intolerable bigotry
that was common then, work was so difficullt to find and if you had contacts
abroad, well you had good chances of making a daycent living elsewhere.
Thankfully that bigotry has mostly disappeared except for those dark places
where it still thrives...........like in Merrick's peanut sized brain.
Here's another couple of examples................see 'em and weep Merrick!

It's good to see the bigotry subsiding.  If you look at it, both sides
like to eat meat and potatoes, drink well, and create families.
Christianity, often perceived as a uniting factor, truly isn't...  It
creates policy wars between different sects of the same "root".  Power
struggle, life loss, etc.

Can you believe my Jewish buddy was asked if he was a "Jewish
Catholic" or "Jewish Protestant" in Northern Ireland?  lol

Through economic exchange and the idea of "you scratch my back, I
scratch yours", a heterogenous society can totally exist.  Heck, let
the Northerners reproduce w/ the Southerners--en masse!  Moving
forward, the Isle needs to keep the food supply high and health
standards good; that'll mitigate the need for both extreme sides to
wage on.

ROTFL!! Pathetic! Eugene's forbears almost certainly originally came from
the UK or elsewhere as much as any of us! There is no such thing as an
indiginous Irishman per se, we all came from somewhere else originally, even
the pre-historical nomadic races such as the Cruthin. Poor eugene is merely

I would have to disagree.  The United Kingdom is composed of at least
four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  As far
as I know, the UK is the only entity that I know which goes to the
effort of calling its territories as countries.  Honestly, I don't
mind the naming convention myself.
