Speeders & Drunk Drivers are MURDERERS - 20 Mar 2008 04:09 GMT Let's bring back the 55 or maybe even 50 mph. Save gas and save lives. High speeds means high wind resistance and that's why you guys get such lousy mileage.

No. It slowly died as government took money from taxpayers to favor trucking for cargo and air travel for passengers and cargo.

Moving business and industries away friom the railroads have something to do with it also. Don't forget that the tir makers liked trucking better, as did road builders....and customers! That happened because trucking's infastructure is mostly paid for with taxes. Why pay for a railroad siding when the taxpayers will build you a 'free' road?

The local transit system (trolley cars, underground & even trolley busses) were done in by GM, basically, who had half the market, either directly or through other builders to which they supplied components.
I rode them, even electric busses were in use in San Fran in 1972 - clean and quiet, with long enough poles so that they could stop curbside. We were within four blocks of five different routes.....but I drove. Blame me!

Hey moron: The highest minimum freeway speed limit I know of is 50MPH in FL. IF the gear jammers want to go 50MPH, there is no law stopping them.
O,BTW: during WWII, the national speed limit was 35MPH. Why don't you advocate that; or are you admitting that you and your generation couldn't carry the Greatest Generation's jock strap?
And another thing, there is an issue that hasn't been addressed:
Have *you* ever driven a car faster then the postes speed limit? Quit driving up the price of fuel for the rest of us, you blood thirsty degenerate.
HAND, luser. Its time for me to hit the road and consume some gasoline for pure entertainment purposes.

AAR, it will be interesting to note who ends up crying as inflation shoots the price of everything sky high in the next few months... well, except for commercial machines, furnishings, etc. The market is already glutted with used crap as businesses are downsizing and going tits-up from sea to shining sea. (except for restaurant equipment, you can always find morons willing to open a restaurant)
That, of course, means we can expect rampant unemployment by the end of this year. And when the unemployment and welfare benefits run out and people get hungry... their morals tend to adjust to fit their needs.
On the bright side, for me anyway, there's going to be a lot fewer vehicles on the road, traveling fewer miles, trucks included, and I'll be able to buy nice vehicles and a lot of other stuff for pennies on the dollar... and there will still be plenty of morons in CA to pay 4x market rate for my MT real estate.

Scott in SoCal - 21 Mar 2008 12:38 GMT Does anybody have a theory as to why SADDAM targets the specifc groups that he does? One would think that an inflammatory post intended to piss off Truckers would at the very least be cross-posted to misc.transport.trucking, yet that group was conspicuously absent from the OP's Newsgroups list. Clearly there is more going on here than simple, straightforward trolling.

Both take the same amount of energy to pump a tire up to the same PSI of same volume air. Efficiency may cause a difference in energy exerted. With a short stroke pump, you exert a lot of energy just keeping the pump steady and yourself from falling over, if it is the type I have. The amount of energy used to fill the tire is the same for both, but ergs wasted in associated movements make you more tired. Attach the pump to a wide base at an angle and it will be much easier to pump - but harder to store.

It will if it's combined with stiff penalties. If doing 20 or more over the speed limit was an automatic felony, would you do it?. And if 10-19 over the limit carried a fine in the thousands of $, would you do that???
Speeding is a super-violent crime and it's time to stop coddling these killers and gas-wasters who commit it.

Oh, what's that? You say you'd want to add assaulting an officer to that felony charge of 41 in a 25 MPH school zone? Be my guest.
Actually, it'd be nice to have speeding be criminalized again, so at least then you could get a jury trial and have a fighting chance. Since speeding is no longer a crime in most jurisdictions, you are at the mercy of the state.
