Dog Jumps In Van, Runs Over Girl
Girl's Mother Says Van Was Running When Dog Jumped In

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- A young east Tennessee girl was hurt when she was run
over by her family's dog, WBIR-TV in Knoxville reported.
Kalli Sipe suffered a punctured lung, bruises and a few scrapes when the
family dog ran over her on Tuesday.
Tire tread marks are still visible on Sipe's sides, WBIR reported.
"I heard the engine running and I turned around to look, and I just remember
screaming, 'No!'" said Kalli's mother, Keyna Sipe.
WBIR's Anthony Welsch reported that while the family was loading scrap wood
into their minivan, which was running, the dog ran toward it, jumped in and
landed on the gas and drove over Kalli.
Sipe said the van rolled all the way down Kalli's chest.
The Blount County Sheriff's Department confirmed the incident, Welsch
reported.
Kalli, whose birthday also falls on April 1, will now have a story to tell
that nobody will buy for the rest of her life.
Sipe said she's not sure how the gear got switched in the van and said she
thought it was in park.
Kalli has since been released from an area hospital and is expected to make
a full recovery.

Much more likely the mother was drunk and ran over the kid and then
invented this preposterous story.

The article makes as much sense as your standard blather, but I
digress.
They ought to throw the book at the mother on several charges, none of
which would be booze-related:
- Allowing an unlicensed operator behind the wheel.
- It's likely that the dog's age was well below the legal minimum for
driving. Thus, allowing an underage driver at the wheel.
- Leaving a vehicle running while unattended violates clean air acts
in many locations.
- I wonder if there's a dangerous-dog ordinance that might have been
violated here. Several KC suburbs have them.
What doesn't fit is that the incident was in Tennessee (cue the banjo
music) and the vehicle was not a worn-out pickup. :^)

Did the dog have papers? If not it should be deported.

That reminds me:
I was stopped at the Border Patrol checkpoint just east of Yuma, AZ,
late one night. The officer, obviously trying to liven up a very tough
duty shift, jokingly asked me if my dog (who was in the back) was a
citizen. I answered "Yes, she was born in San Diego!" He smiled and
waved us on through.

No. She was part German Shepherd, however. :)

The only way I can see this happening is if the driver left the vehicle in
drive but set the emergency brake. Enough to hold the vehicle at idle, but
not when the engine revved.
And if that's the case, the driver is an idiot who needs to be charged with
child endangerment. Give her a year or two of probation and some follow up
checks from CPS.

Just like people, some dogs make better drivers than other dogs. German
Sheppards and Australian Blue cattle dogs are good driving breeds.

That white dog on the advert should be given the wheel instead of him
just singing. Some type of terrier I think.

I was half expecting the dog to be Lamar from the old QuikTrip
commercials. :)
