That's gas for $3.33/gallon, still below national average by a bit.

Diesel running now in cleaning-formula numbers: $4.09.

Looks like the upcoming gov't handout just might fill the tank when it
finally arrives.

Wow, that's low. Gas/diesel is running US$3.50/4.20 here in south GA.
That ASSumes that you are getting a fair gallon of gas from these
conartists around here.

LOL! I'm still planning on a new pedalcycle with my bribe....
errr.....hush money..... errrrr.... stimulus check.

MO usually runs lower than most of the states on the two coasts.

Given the expected timing of the politicians' lame contribution to the
citizenry, it may allow me to make it to the Old Timers Reunion in my
old hometown.  It's an annual event over Memorial Day weekend.  Given
that most people in that town leave for various places right after
high school, even the most recent graduates (this time the class of
2k8) qualify as old-timers.

Putting the prices into perspective, other commodities are also high.
Gold's at about $1,000...silver's at about $18, platinum's at about
$2,000, corn's at $6 and soybeans at $14.  Compare that to 2003, right
before my last trip to Allah's Sandbox Playground, when gas was at
$1.50, gold was at $300, silver at $4, platinum at $700, corn at $1.60
and soybeans at $5.  Thah dollah sux.

I'm half expecting the gold and silver prices to start to drop as
people dump precious metals to pay for fuel and food.  Then again,
hints of that are already happening in KC with thieves making off with
wiring, piping and A/C units to sell copper at scrap yards, and
stealing catalytic converters for the platinum.  They probably are
also practing unlicensed dentistry to get at gold teeth.

At my old job, a coworker was telling me a bit about the legend of
Washington's Vision.  The gist of that is that the US will be invaded
and nearly wiped off the map, over food.

Perhaps the only problem with Aunt Judy's prophecy is the timing.

turkey day and $4 by Xmas as exxon tries to make
up for the money they lost lowering prices to
help their bud Bush."

Some sort of government cartel via some sort of new-dealish program will
render US agriculture about as productive as soviet farming or worse the
Iraqi oil system by the time the invaders get here. So basically they
won't get much of anything.

Not *that* one.  The May one which might cover a percentage of the
pre-15 April bill.

I don't get a 'stimulus' check.  I get the bill for it in the form of my
savings being devalued.

It's a handout for those who get the check but didn't pay any taxes
in the first place.  They should have just reduced tax rates across
the board, but then again, that would only make sense.

What government does makes perfect sense from government's point of
view. Lower taxes doesn't benefit government. Taking from one group and
giving to another does.

Trouble is, seeing government as an entity with a self-interest is
considered tin-foil hattery.
