> The proposed regulation, which resulted from a federal energy bill signed by President Bush in December, promises to curtail carbon dioxide emissions from cars and light trucks and reduce America's reliance on foreign oil.
>
> Nichols and the advocates at first cheered the proposal - until they came across page 378, which says that states cannot set their own standards.

I expect that there are enoughh Californians tht woud picket any
dealership that would dare put on sale cars against Arnies (and our)
will.

I'll take the morning shift at San Diego Toyota, which uses Old Glory
in their ads - against the flag code!

PS. The M-N used to have the occasio9nal op-ed column in which the
name of the author was in very small priont so that the reader had to
go searching for it.
I almost fell off the chair a few times when I found myself agreeing
with Ralph Nader!
Does the M-N still do that? (It was great and I admire the columnists
that allowed it.)
