The number one reason I hate underposted speed limits.

Brent P - 16 May 2008 16:35 GMT My drive to work takes me past a police station of the kind of small suburb of the well-to-do where the cops have only one thing to do in the morning besides partake in coffee and doughtnuts, and that is write revenue tickets. 40% of the time there is one in the drive of the police station sitting there. I don't have a radar detector so I don't know if they run radar there or not. Loafing probably is not the reason given the location.
Just before the police station some asshat in chevy SUV starts tailgating me. I am doing the speed limit +2/-0 on my speedo. I point to the speed limit sign and the police station. Asshat doesn't back off.... this goes on for a couple miles until he follows me turning left and I am out of that town and can make the turn fast and get away from him. Asshat then does about 80mph in a 45 to catch back up to me.
reviewing the video I find the asshat might be the one that left the right lane to try and pass a truck but then needed to make the same right turn I made. It seems since I was already in the turn lane he couldn't slide over because I didn't nail the brakes to let him in (he didn't have a signal on) so maybe that's what he was acting out about. It looks like the same vehicle, but I can't be sure. I had an asshat in front of me stopping on a green arrow that took my attention so I don't know exactly where the blue chevy SUV came from when I noticed it gaining on me after the turn.
I really don't want to drive anymore. Dealing with these asshats every day just isn't fun.

1) Only a moron like gpstroll would do 15 over in front of a police station where a cop sits in the driveway 2 out of every 5 workday mornings.
2) The road is a one lane in each direction with no shoulder. I've biked this road, if I put two wheels off the pavement odds are I would end up stuck in the soft mud. The road has a center 'lane' for a significant stretch where when I slowed for these asshats before they have simply used it to pass. I slowed for this asshat, instead of taking the chance to pass he simply pulled in closer. He had two chances to pass me he took neither. At the final turn he could have gone straight and turned left at the next street and suffered no delay. He chose to follow me. My guess is he was an a.shole with nothing better in his life than to use his truck to bully people, wait, now I know why gpstroll defends him, that's what gpstroll does with his truck!

I'm not defending anyone, Sparky, I'm pointing out your driving skills and judgment are... eh, roughly typical... not worth a sh.t, and you don't have much in the way of problem solving ability either.
AFAICT, you seem to think the speed limit was somehow at fault, a question I posed that you seem to have chosen to disregard in favor of ad hominem. -----

Nate Nagel - 16 May 2008 23:18 GMT > AFAICT, you seem to think the speed limit was somehow at fault, a > question I posed that you seem to have chosen to disregard Because it causes conflict between people obeying the law and people who want to drive at a higher but still safe speed for the road, especially when there's a subset of the latter group who are impatient. I'm sure that was clear to nearly all except you.

How does that solve the OP's "problem" *tomorrow*... in spite of the lack of your wishes for nirvana...?
I contend allowing the tailgater to pass (or merge to one's front) will prohibit further tailgating... today, tomorrow, and forever... in every single instance.
You got anything better than that? -----

Driving in the center lane without turning is illegal lane use.

Well, sacrifices must be made in the name of Safety. If more people crash and die in the name of Safety, so be it; after all, Safety trumps safety.

I guess you missed the part where I asked what the speed limit had to do with the "problem"... and the simple solution I offered...?
Meanwhile, of what does this post of yours consist...?

What part of "he didn't hav a signal on"(3rd paragraph) didn't you understand? Was Brent P obliged to read the suv driver's mind??
I've been in many a similar situation, and actually locked eyes with many drivers in the same situation as the "asshat" Brent P was writing about. And I didn't let them over either - why - no turn signal!
Now if the shoe's on my foot and I'm actually signalling to get into the lane I need to be in, I know that just having a turn signal on won't necessarily get me into my desired lane much faster - but it just might!
Not to mention that I've often let many a driver merge into my lane, at highway or city speeds, simply for the fact that they DID signal their intention.
The moral: USE TURN SIGNALS when changing lanes or merging!!! There's only one Mind Reader that I know of, and I'm thankful to Him for being alive.
Simple, aint it???

I don't know what the f.ck you're talking about. You've confused the major and minor complaints of the OP.
A clueless f.ck that wants "in" should be let in, signal or no. Do you want them behind you where you are further subject to their incompetency, or do you want them to your front, where you have the greatest avoidance control?
We see the choice of the OP, and the results so upset him that he ran here to report it, as if his experience is somehow unique.
"And then they HIT ME!" (surprise)... is the only thing missing from the OP's report. -----

Where did he say he was tailgating?
I just reread Brent's post to make sure I didn't miss anything, and nothing in there implies that he had to be tailgating anyone.

Holy sh.t gpstard actually posted a completely factually correct sentence!

> Do > you want them behind you where you are further subject to their > incompetency, or do you want them to your front, where you have the > greatest avoidance control? I don't want to be anywhere near them. If I'm traveling faster than they, I *definitely* want them behind me. (yes, I know that that was not the original situation.) There's plenty of reasons why I may not want them in front of me, not the least of which is that if they show a habit of not signalling they may do that typical clueless f.ck stunt of stopping in the middle of the road for a turn, but since you don't know which way they're turning, you can't pass.
And, of course, there's the principle of the matter. If you can't be arsed to signal, I can't be arsed to offer you a courtesy that I am not legally required to. Simple, no?
