Well, this week, I've decided to say to hell with the gas prices, I'm
going to get out there and do some Roads Scholaring and the first
results are in:

First for a couple of recently neglected photographic projects:

First, the worldofnecromancer.org's US17/GA25 project sees a few dozen
new  photos featuring US17 in McIntosh County, GA:

http://www.worldofnecromancer.org/ga25/ga25-mcintosh.html

Do note, clicking the, "Liberty County," link at the bottom of the
page will take you for a ride down Federal Route 404. I decided to go
ahead and place the link so I can be lazy in the future when it comes
time for the Liberty County snaps to go up.

Second, coastalgeorgiaroads.net has new photos of GA99 in McIntosh
County from Eulonia, GA to Darien, GA.

http://www.coastalgeorgiaroads.net/ga99-mcintosh/index.html

Note to Scott in SoCal: this is a long lonely stretch of road... ;)

And last, but not least for a new video:

This is US301 in Southeast Georgia from Jesup, GA north to the
Wayne/Long County line.

http://blip.tv/file/943672

Do note a difference in this video from the previous videos. For the
youtubers, this video should be youtube friendly (i.e. it meets
youtube's anal-retentive requirement of being 10mins or less), so it
is uploading there as I type this.

For a taste of what is to be forthcomming, there will be more of
US301, this time expolring Long County, GA and its infamous County
Seat, Ludowici. Then a ride down GA57 from Ludowici to Eulonia past
the northern edge of the Townsend Bombing Range. And finally, to
complement the GA99 page on coastalgeorgia roads will be a video trip
on the same route.

Please accept my appologies for the wierd angle of the camera in these
shows. Don't know if the camera shiftes after I got into the car or
what, but the angle is a bit strange.

Good thing you told me that - for a minute there, I thought you were
accidentally repeating the same photograph over and over. :)

Reminds me a lot of Minden, LA, for some reason. I guess a lot of
those small, southern towns look alike. :)

Doesn't your tripod have a bubble level? :)

That's pretty much this area, miles and miles of pines. Though there
is one thing to say for lonely roads like that one: limited patrols =
speed limit optional.....  ;)

Yeah, it does. Leading to my theory that the camera/tripod must have
shifted when I got in the car and shut the door....

Interesting photos of places I've never been, thanks for posting them!

One tip: You really need the black blanket across your dash to cover
up the vent reflections & glare, it will give you a richer picture as
well.

Nice video, I enjoyed the ride.

No problem on the camera, it is not easy getting it set up the way you
want it every time, I shot a few videos that I'd like to do over after
looking at the footage but it's hard to tell what you've got while
your shooting, especially if you are alone, I always fret getting the
camera just right.

It's still better than 90% of the highway Videos on YouTube.

Don't sweat it, it's never easy getting the camera set up just the way
you want it every time, especially when you are alone, I've got
footage I wish I could re-shoot due to not having the camera "just
right"

I've had the same mindset, even with gas prices here now at $4.21 -
$4.29 for regular.  I'm probably driving from the Bay Area to Burbank
on Saturday to attend a friend's birthday dinner.

I think gas would have to reach something like $6 a gallon, before I
would significantly cut back on my driving.

Of course, with a car that gets me about 37 - 38 MPG on the freeway (a
2006 Corolla), gas prices don't hurt me as much as someone getting 15
MPG in an SUV.

I think that I am more tired of hearing the constant news media
drumbeat about US$4.00 gas than I am of actually paying US$4.00 for
gas.

I have cut out alot of the excess driving I was doing. Mainly by
consolidating trips and such....

That's true. If people would just use the SUV for what its intended
for (i.e. carrying several passengers and/or lots of cargo), they
wouldn't be such a bad thing in many people's eyes. But when they are
largely used for what your Corolla easily does....

I'd like to add that I don't have anything against SUV's; they're
quite pleasant to drive (at least the one's I've been in), spacious,
etc. etc.  But I would only drive one with a full load of people for a
camping trip, a snowboarding weekend or for off-road exploring;
driving solo to work in one with no intentions to load it up to the
max with work-related items is just a waste of fuel.  And in these
times, a very expensive fillup.

I'm not a big fan of my 2006 Corolla; the steering wheel doesn't come
out far enough, and the suspension leaves a lot to be desired, but
hey, it gets me to where I need to go in reliable fashion, without
breaking the bank.  The brand new 2009 Corolla's are a significant
improvement in terms of ride-comfort and handling, and includes a
telescopic steering wheel.  I would say the new Corolla's almost as
comfortable now as driving a brand new Camry, and even during a fierce
wind storm in California's Central Valley, the car held its own quite
nicely.  I expect a small car to be tossed around a lot during windy
conditions, but that wasn't the case in the new Corolla.  After test-
driving one for over a thousand miles, it'll probably be my next
vehicle in 2 to 3 more years; my 2006 Corolla will become the local
commuter and grocery-getter vehicle.
