Exclusive: Robert Novak Speaks About Striking Pedestrian posted 3:26 pm Wed July 23, 2008 - WASHINGTON
The pedestrian who was struck by prominent Washington columnist and commentator Robert Novak is in worse shape than first thought, a hospital source tells ABC 7 News.
The victim, a 66-year-old man, is undergoing surgery and was only semi- conscious, the source said.
In an exclusive interview with ABC 7 News, Novak said felt "terrible" about striking a pedestrian Wednesday morning while on his way to work in downtown D.C.
Metropolitan police cited Novak with failure to yield to a pedestrian about 10:07 a.m. at 18th and K streets NW, Novak confirmed to ABC 7 News.
Novak spoke to ABC 7 News as he emerged from a police car at the scene. Novak said he did not know he had struck anyone. Novak said he didn't know anything was wrong until a bicyclist rode ahead of him and blocked traffic. The bicyclist informed Novak he had hit a pedestrian.
In an interview, the bicyclist told ABC 7's Suzanne Kennedy the pedestrian was splayed across Novak's windshield, and there was no way that Novak could not have known he struck someone. The cyclist, David Bono, also said that the pedestrian was in a crosswalk and had the right of way.
Novak admitted he was emotionally shaken by the incident.
Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) officers detained Novak at the scene for about an hour. He was not arrested
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said the pedestrian complained of pain in his arm and was taken to George Washington University Hospital with what were described as minor injuries at the time.

He was cited for failure to yield, that's a traffic infraction. Not charged with hit and run. *You* may think it's hit and run. *I* may think it's hit and run.
But the subject line of your post that he was "Charged with Hit and Run" is not true. Not true.
Can you grasp the difference between what you *think* should happen and what actually *did* happen? Are you actually too dimwitted to grasp the difference between the two? You must have an IQ somewhere around room temperature. Celsius.

I expect the reason why he wasn't charged with hit and run is because while he might have wanted to do it, he didn't actually do it thanks to the intervention of that cyclist. Novak owes the guy a big thank you.

The mere fact that the driver injured a person should be enough to lock the driver away for a couple of years. But nooooo, having status in high society counts. Like Ted Kennedy was never charged for his role in that well known incident. Like the governor of New Jersey's driver was never charged for illegal use of light and siren and speed.
Justice only gets applied when it's to someone who has no fame, fortune, or knowledge of how things work.

Looks like the Magic Words didn't work this time, Brent. :) "I didn't know I hit him" are not magic words. Because that means they drove on. What a driver has to do is stop at the scene of the collision immediately and when the cops show up proclaim "I didn't see him" or "he swerved / stepped right out in front of me".
By driving on the cops think the driver is disregarding the procedure, and by doing so, their authority. It doesn't matter if the driver is so brain dead and unaware that they don't know something hit their vehicle the cops are going to assume malice. It's as if the driver challenged their authoritah (yes, south park) when they don't stop immediately after a collision. It's like when someone dares to drive on to a well lit populated location before being pulled over. The cop doesn't think about the driver's safety, but rather the insult to his authority.

Here's a guy that already mowed down a pedestrian and drove off, and you're deliberately standing in front of his car?
That Bono guy is a couple PSI short of a full tire.

What you can do with regards to getting in front of a motorist depends upon their homicide potential. In bicycling on roads you begin to a develop an ability to read people and vehicles.
It's much the same where you can see two identical make and model minivans and just based on a few subtle hints of a little bit of each's driving and small details of the vehicle know which driver is likely total sloth and which is the man who's wife forced him to buy a minivan so he's going to compensate with very aggressive driving.

OBTW, it's time for doddering geezer Novak to turn in his license and hang up his key fob (Corvettes don't have ignition keys :) for good. Anyone so oblivious that they could hit a pedestrian, have that pedestrian roll up onto the hood of their car, and NOT NOTICE is too deteriorated to be driving.

Nice theory, but doesn't match reality. Last year someone hit a motorcyclist in my town (San Francisco, the incident I'm relating happened in the SOMA district), hard enough to rip the front bumper from their car. Took off. Must have realized that their front bumper - with license plate - was at the scene, and returned about ten or fifteen minutes after the accident - the police and paramedics were already on the scene. No arrest.
The fact that he stopped within a few minutes and claims he didn't know he hit anyone makes it hard to prove he intentionally fled the scene of an accident. Hard to convince a jury, since the guy was sober and insured, and there were plenty of witnesses, that he had a reason to flee or would think he'd get away with it.

A few years back newsman Jack Cafferty ran over a cyclist and kept on going and he paid just a small fine and that was it. And we all know about laura bush and teddy k. The rich and powerful do whatever they want.

Regardless, when the supposed victim with "minor injuries" found out who it was that supposedly hit him, his injuries immediately became more serious - especially after the ambulance-chasing lawyer, who maintains a small office in the emergency room at GW Hospital, advised him how they could expect to get tons of money from Novak.
Of course, having surgery while semi-conscious is also a great way to sue the hospital and is an obvious fall-back position.
How the media can twist this so it will play into Obama's hands is still to be determined.

Screw you, bitch. Novak is the same traitor who outed valerie plame as a cia agent. He should have gone to prison for that and i hope he gets it for this.
Why do you support traitors and highway maimers.
