I have a 10 year old john deere sx38 lawn tractor. Over the last year
intermittantly the blade clutch has become disengaged suddenly while
cutting the lawn. When I try to reengage the blade nothing happens. The
engine keeps running it is just the blade that becomes disengaged. Then
it suddenly start working again. Today it stopped working and I have
not been able to get it to reengage. When I pull the electric button
to engage the blade nothing happens. I don't hear anything. The electric
to the clutch appears to be working ~2amps.
Thanks in advance for any sugestions.
Regards,
Warren

If yours is anything like mine, there are several switches for safety. One
is under the seat and one on the brake pedal. I think that there are some
relays at work too .Yours may be different. All the switches have to be
closed for electricity to get to the clutch.
All I can say is to trace out the wires and try to understand how it works
and the problem should reveal its self. What ever you do, do not by-pass any
safety devices.

Disconnect the wires going to the electric clutch and run 12 volts
direckly to the clutch to see if it operates correctly. If it does,
then it is a safety switch, bad wire, dirty connection somewhere. If
not, then it is the clutch mechanism.
Good luck.
