Are calipers supposed to move freely once it's fitted?
GM service manual says "The brake caliper should move easily within the
brake caliper bracket"
I'm not sure about this though...once the caliper bolts are tightened,
I sure can't move the caliper!
The same with the original fittings...they were real tight...more like
rusted tight!
Maybe the movement was so small that it's hard to notice?

Well, they should not flop around but they should slide easily on the slides.
Once the piston(s) are out they won't move much though.

If the pads are in a normal operating position near the
rotors, you may not see much easy movement at all. The
movement referred to is with the pads fully backed off or in
the cylinder. In this condition you should be able to
easily slide the calipre back and forth over it's allowed
travel distance.

How was the wear on the old pads? If the wear was uneven on the inside
compared to the outside pad, you have caliper slide issues, if they wore
down even, you are fine.
The caliper slide bolts and the bracket slide the pads use should be
greased with high temp brake grease.

The pads wear evenly. The old ones look real shiny, like it's made of
metal...
With the pads well off the rotor, the caliper does loosen up a
little...so that's what it is...
Thanks.
