My '97 Camaro Z28 has an annoying play in the drive axles allowing the left disc to touch the caliper. I measured the play and it's about 1/4 inch on the left side and 1/8 on the right. I also removed the left drive axle to see if I could find the cause, but both the axle and the c-clip look fine. No apparent wear on either, so the problem must be somewhere else. What's the other part in the differential that keeps the drive axle in place? I never removed the gears since it wasn't covered in my manual, so I couldn't see how much wear there was there. Basically, is there a quick fix for this, like putting shims/washers inside of the c-clip, or does the whole differential need to be removed? Those gears are pretty deep so there's no risk it'll wear through, right? It might even be be possible to buy another c-clip and put two on that side, IIRC the groove in the shaft was pretty wide.
