front strut assembly mazda mx6

do you need to use any grease  or is there some sort of gasket at top

There is usually a thin gasket between the strut mount and the body. If
it has fallen apart you could either pay the dealer for a new one or
you could probably get away with using some thick gasket paper. Cut it
out to fit the strut mount and the bolt holes in the body and bolt it
back together.
