What would make oil come out of the dip stick at a slow rate when the
engine is running ?

The car runs pretty good and is reliable.

305 v8 100,000 easy miles.

Sounds as if the engine is not breathing properly, as when the pcv valve
is stopped up.  If so, it cannot breathe out the vapor-pressure from the
valve covers and crankcase--allowing the pressure to escape wherever it can
find an escape route which happens to be the dipstick tube for the crankcase
(and from the valve covers too, if they don't find an outlet sooner).  HTH &
good luck, s
