I have a weird noise when i go over a bump in my car.  I don't think it's the
shocks becuase it's not a squeek, so much as a rattle.  Any idea on what it
could be.  The car drives straight as an arrow, and doesn't make noise when
i'm turning.  I'm leaning towards the struts.
Thanks

How do you know your car has struts?
Maybe it has double A-arms instead.

Not the weird noise that is the original post in this thread, but does
anyone else remember the wierd noises from the first puncture-proof
tubeless tires?  These tires had a gooey lining, and eventually some of
it would start beading up and form little balls of sealant.  The result
was like marbles rolling around in the tires!

What kind of car is it?  If a BMW (as your name suggests) then you do
have MacPherson struts up front.  If what you're hearing is a sort of
clicking noise, then I'd look for strut mounts or sway bar end links.
Check the rubber on both for any signs of cracking (although I've had
strut mount problems with no signs of cracking up top; only replacement
made the problem evident).

Bear in mind that if you plan on doing the strut mounts, the car will
need to be re-aligned afterwards.  Since you'll be pulling the strut
apart anyway (and needing an alignment) it's probably a good time to
think about replacing your shocks, spring isolators (maybe some new
sport springs too!), and maybe even your bushings and ball joints at
the same time (if they're getting old anyway, why not take care of it
early while the car's apart?).  Maybe I just tend to go overboard on
these things.

Anyway, you might just do the sway bar end links first (since they'll
be cheap and you won't need an alignment afterwards) and see if that
takes care of your problem  before you dive into something major like a
full front suspension job.

Good luck.
