99 wrangler TJ 2.5 litre. I am putting a rebuilt motor in my jeep and
i need to reuse the valve covers. When i went to the auto parts store
to get gakets for these, the computer said there wasnt any gasket for
the valve cover. Does anybody know why this is or what needs to be
done in place of gaskets or where I can find a set of gaskets?
They decided you need a new cover when it leaks....
The OEM cover just uses 'sensor safe' RTV silicone for a gasket. It is
'very' important you follow the directions on the container, especially
the curing times. 'Most' RTV's need 24 hours to cure properly. There
seems to be a 99% chance on Jeep engines that if you don't wait this
cure time before using it, the valve cover will leak.
I have my long 6's plastic cover on with RTV, there aren't even any
bolts around the edges, only two little ones up top and it just started
to leak again after 7 years of being dry.
