Recently I cleaned EGR valve twice to put out the check engine light.
Today car started making noise while accelerating and it is producing
considerably less power. A quick check under the hood revealed that a
hose between EGR valve and EGR modulator somehow disconnected. The
sounds was air from the hose???

I reconnected the hose, but it disconnected once we started a test
drive. Reconnected again - it disconnected again seconds later. The
hose is really hot.

To explain which hose I am talking about take a look at this
illustation: http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h61.pdf it is a thicker
short hose with stripes, not any of the black ones.

Question: should I just replace the hose? Is it an indication of some
more serious problem?

Modulator diaphragm has failed. That is allowing exhaust from the engine
to blow the hose off.

I tried 2 different modulators from a junk yard (stored dont have it).
Hose still gets blown off as I rev the engine. Worn out hose or I have
too much back pressure in the exhaust?

Put a pressure gauge on where the hose is being blown off and
measure it.
