2000 Oldsmobile Intrigu

When idling / low RPM the car will overheat, when on the highway th
temp seems normal/constant there is a little fluctuation if you slo
down and speed up again.

There was/is a small leak in the head gasket that I put some stop lea
in (stupid move i now know) but after i put that in the over heatin
problem started about an hour later i had the system flushed

The problem still existed and got worse, i replaced the thermostat an
it settled down to what i described in the first paragraph.

The fans run and kick up even higher when a temp around 220,
believe, is reached. The pump seems to be working fine because I ge
plenty of heat in the car. The upper part of the radiator hose i
warm and gets hotter when the engine temp goes up and the lower hos
is cool.

When at lower speeds the only way that it seem to cool is to rev th
engine to about 1800 or 2000 or over then it goes down to a norma
operating temperature

Any idea's or things to look at would be appricate

Thanks

Have cooling system checked for possible head gasket leaks.

Have cooling system checked for possible head gasket leaks

I just replaced the radiator to see if that was clogged and it stil
over heats.

The front head gasket leaks, but I'm not sure how that would cause a
engine to over heat when it doesn't leak much at all.

So, so far i have a new thermostat and a new radiator

There is heat in the car so i believe the pump is working correctl
but when lower RPMs (2000 or less) it starts to over heat unless yo
rev it more

If anyone has idea's It'd be appreciated

...because the cooling system depends upon captive pressure to raise
the boiling point of water.  If there is a loss of pressure (even a
small leak will vent all the pressure out), the water will boil,
filling the cooling system with compressible air pockets that a) don't
carry heat like liquid does, and b) make it very difficult for the
water pump to operate like it should.

If the head gasket is leaking, it is relieving the pressure from the
cooling system, and your car will continue to overheat until you
resolve this.

Because the radiator can't keep pressure, so the fluid now boils at a
much lower temperature than it normally would.  You need a head gasket.

Even if i had a pressure test done and they said the pressure held

Thanks again everyon
