Sheesh. You'd think that they'd fit the wiring harness with a keyed
connector to prevent reversed connections.
What kind of car is this so I won't buy one like it by mistake?

If it works when connected correctly, no. In fact, there may be a
reverse polarity diode in the inverter put there specifically to blow
the fuse and protect the electronics in the event it gets miswired.
If it doesn't work (once connected correctly), you've blown the
inverter.
