99 Subaru Forester L problems

I have a 99 subaru forester that I just recently changed the head
gaskets on. in doing so a host of trouble codes sprang up when the car
was all back together. It ran fine but the codes all popped up. They
primarily deal with two items .. first the is a Fuel Air control
meter?. I got the impression that it was the Idle Air control valve..
and second was the speed sensor . the two codes I remember are these
p1121 p1050 (out of five.. two of the codes listed were redundant so
there are really only 3 codes) .. I will take it to Autozone tonight to
see if I can get a new list.

Anyway so last night I tried to fix what I thought might be the problem
.. the car ran fine but it had the codes as previously mentioned. I
thought that maybe the throttlebody just needed to be cleaned. so I
used some carb cleaner (that is some powerful medicine) and cleaned out
the throttle body and the Idle air control valve stuff (this was really
dirty had lots of black stuff). but now when the car is started and
warmed .. if you place the acceleration at about 2-2.5 grand on the
tach, the motor will surge. So did I mess up the IAC?  and also after
doing this the 'at oil temp' light started flashing. according to the
manual it has soomthing to do with the transmission sensors in an
automatic tranny. the transmission fluid isn't over heated. the light
comes on when it is cold too.

I hope somebody can help me on this. Thanks for your time,

Byron

P1121 = TP not consistant with MAF input.
P1050 = not in my list

at 2,000 rpms IAC system should be out of the mix as far as surge cause.

my first move would be to backtrack everything i touched and check for
connection and possibly clean the MAF sensor matrix, if needed.

Wires mixed up or possibly harness damaged.

Not do I find it in AllData.

Absolutely.

This mess the OP described is not caused by a lack of cleaning the
throttle body or likely the lack of cleaning  anything else.  Agree he
needs to check ALL electrical connections.

thank you for the provided feedback to date.

i have a list of the codes now

p0500
p1101
p1101
p1121
p1540
p1540

as previously mentioned some of these codes pop up twice. and more
problems have occured since getting these readings. the surging only
occured after getting these readings and cleaning the throttle body.
also the AT Temp light (automatic transmssion temperature light is
flashing) after having unbolted a sensor near the back of the
transmission pulling it out looking at it (it has two wires going to it
and a metal cylinder inside the transmission about an 1-1/4 ish long)..
and then putting it back.

for p1101 and p1121. could this be a result of the MAF sensor or wires
going to the sensor being shorted?

for p0500 where should I look to find the speed sensor? I have heard
that it is on the transmission on some cars. how can I identify it?

and p1540.. it has to do with a pedal position sensor? or a VSS signal
too high? which both of the codes mention bmw and vw afterwards.. this
is a subaru.

again thanks for your time,, i will keep looking messed up wires!

I have yet another addition. I found an unconnected vacuume hose.. I
connected it and the AT Temp light disappeared .. I am hoping this
solves the MAF sensor problem and the throttle position not matching
the MAF out put problem too. BUT it still surges.. this may be a by
product of improperly cleaning the IAC? I hope not, as I was quoted 400
for a new one. I will take it to Autozone tommorrow again and get the
codes read.. OR maybe buy a reader for 80 bucks!

Unlikely.
