Air intake from the smog pump.
Did your old converter have one?
Is there an air pipe from the pump?

Rockauto has various pics, depending on whether it's a 6 or 8-cyl.
None of them show an air inlet, but they all show the converter having a
short pipe in front, and a longer pipe behind, angling to the passenger side.
Here's Walker's diagrams:

Thanks for the help!
There is a long tube that used to run to the old cat converter. I think
it is an air pump, to blow a little air in so the converter has oxygen
to do the job. The "L" tube on the new converter doesn't have any
fittings on it to match the air tube running from the engine, so I'll
just need to weld on a fitting or something.
I've heard you can run the after-market converters without pumping air
into it, but I'd like to hook up the air blower tube anyways.
I ended up mounting the converter so the tube points forward, but is on
the bottom so I can add the correct fitting.

On my Ford I used a Walker #35574 "AIR tube kit" that comes with a short
steel tube and a dual-sized high temperature hose that you cut-to-fit to connect
the old pipe to the converter's inlet.
Here's the only pic I could find....

Thanks -- I didn't know there was such a thing! I'll go by the nearest
NAPA tonight and pick one up.

Yikes! I called and they want over $30 for that thing. Does that seem
high? It's basically a rubber tube and some hose clamps...
Do you know anyone else who sells the same thing for less?

Just to follow up on this -- I ended up buying the Walker #35574 "Air
tube kit" from Napa and it worked fine. Thanks for the pointer!
