List of  Car problem symptoms needed

Hi,
I am the author of a new website www.eautostation.com. My website
allows customers to post their car problems and mechanics to bid on
them. Any one can register as a mechanic. Here is the problem I dont
know much about cars. When a customer posts a car problem they are
given a list of car symptoms to choose from, making it easier for the
mechanic to bid with confidence. But I dont know many common car
symptoms and would realy appreciate it if some one could point me to a
list or help me out with a list of car symptoms. To see what I am
looking for goto the website and login with the following

username = user
password = user1

and try to post a car repair problem. If you think you can provide a
realy complete list that will be very usefull to my users (provided I
pay for it:) ) let me know how much it will cost

Thank you

That's got to be the dumbest idea I've heard in a long time.  There's no way
a tech can bid a job strictly by symptoms, unless he figures the worst case
scenario in which case your customers will be wasting a LOT of money. You
say anyone can register as a mechanic? What happens when some hacker f.cks
up a car? Are you going to pay the damages? Don't laugh, if you bid jobs
this way it will be a common occurrence.

What you are proposing has been tried and failed....

Connect2mechanic.com was set up by an ASE and Ford certified technician
with the concept of car owners listing their problems/needs, and a group of
technicians bidding for the work.

In one year's time he had five people sign up as "mechanics" and one....ONE
job come in for bidding.

The three "mechanics" that bid on the job came across like a bunch of
shade-tree mechanics.

Good, professional technicians - the ones who know their own value - are
unlikely to participate in such foolishness.

So you will only get the shade-tree, backyard, throat-cutters who are
willing to work for $5.00-per-hour...........under the table, of course.

Even if you were to, somehow, lure the country's top technicians into your
scheme, what is the potential of having a technician in close proximity to
a customer with a problem?

How many people are willing to travel - or pay to have their car towed -
50-100 miles to get their car repaired by one of your people??

The project was eventually dropped.

YOU, by your own admission, have little - if any - mechanical knowledge.

If an ASE and Ford-certified technician can't make it work, what makes you
believe your scheme will?

Your potential market wil likely be someone who doesn't have a lot of
money, and is shopping for a "deal."

Requiring the latest software to access your site is foolish on your part.

Your potential customer is less likely to have the latest in computers.

I'm still operating quite well on Win 95 and MS Explorer 5....but, if I
wanted to see your site, I cannot access it without buying new computer and
software.

Your potential customer can hardly afford to keep his car on the road, yet
you want him to upgrade his computer/software.

Yeah.....That's gonna' be one success story.........

Hi,
First of all ouch! I guess I will try to defend my idea.

>Your potential customer is less likely to have the latest in computers.
Hmmm computers are very cheap these days. Also in my humble opinion
(IMHO) college students are my potential customers who will have
access to better computers and newer version of software.

> I cannot access it without buying new computer and
>Software.
Not really. All you have to do is update to IE6 or get Mozila firebox
both those options are free

>How many people are willing to travel - or pay to have their car towed -
>50-100 miles to get their car repaired by one of your people??
Please take a look at the website before commenting. Car Jobs and
Mechanics both have to enter zip code and I calculate distances based
on those. Soon customers will be able to see how far the bidding
mechanics are. Mechanic already choose how far they want their jobs to
be

>What happens when some hacker f###
>Up a car?
Customers will rate mechanic. So they have a choice always, to choose
a cheap mechanic with no ratings versus a mechanic with lots of
ratings and history and possibly a little expensive.

>There's no way
>A tech can bid a job strictly by symptoms, unless he figures the worst case
>Scenario in which case your customers will be wasting a LOT of money
Soon mechics will be able to bid with multiple diagnosis and
corresponding costs, so the customer know the best and the worst case
scenario and accept or deny

>lure the country's top technicians into your
>scheme
This is not a scheme. I am hoping to make money via donations and
google ads.

So back to original question. Can some one help me out with a list of
car symptoms?

Thank you

Here's one free starter condition/cause:  'Vehicle won't move/unsafe/
noisy/high emissions -- Car butchered by previous budget hack; haven't
learned lesson so returning for round two'

Toyota MDT in MO

P.S. sorry, but I can't help but naysay this idea.  Principle won't
even allow me to wish you good luck.

You would be surprised at how much your concept reflects that of the failed
connect2mechanic.

Instead of ME trying to download software for the sole purpose of accessing
YOUR site - customer friendliness notwithstanding, YOU ought to hook up to
connect2mechanic.com and see a site that is actually lonelier than the
Maytag Repairman.
