I have been through a lot of BBB sites, and they are generally very
uninformative.
They do not necessarily tell you what you need to know.
I like the AAA site pretty well, but am always interested to find other
resources.

Besides that the BBB is a private company that operates like a
protecton racket. You have to be a member - i.e. pay them money every
year - to have access to their arbritration system. If you don't pay
them and somebody makes a complaint against your business you don't
have anyway to contest the bad publicity or update whatever resolution
you and your customer may come to. I wouldn't even bother with them.
If I can I prefer to check out a shop with something very small and
petty and see how they handle themselves in general before stopping by
with a real repair. Besides, since I do most of my work myself the
ones I do bring in are usually real doosies.

A lot of these listing services will list almost any company that pays
a fee to them. That includes the company 1-800-DENTIST, which charges
something like $5,000-$10,000.

And a company with a clean record can still be really bad, like the
roofing company we hired last year (took a year to fix the job).

One thing good about AAA-approved garages is that they have to abide
by AAA arbitration, but the customer does not.
